Default It hit close to home this time

This happened yesterday in Memphis. I saw the owner interviewed a minute ago, he was cool as a cucumber and said that his dogs would not attack unless "provoked". When asked why several different neighbors had complaints, he said is was just beacause of the breed of the dogs. Never mind that I watched at least 3 neighbors who were intereviewed whose dogs had been attacked by these dogs.

they almost ate this old lady up, she was protecting her son's dog

Time and time again we hear about pit bulls doing this. It's time they do something about them. Not only are dogs getting killed but people too. I'm not sure but can you have Pits in FL? I know their are Pit lovers out their but they need to be under control at ALL times. I see in my town so many Pit bulls I don't even think they love the breed as much as don't I look cool & mean having this dog.

I agree with much you say. They could have 100 of them as far as I am concerned, but you need to pay the cost to be sure they are contained at ALL times. Isn't there some other famous sports figure whose neighbors recently brought charges against him because he has like 20 or so of them that are roaming free at will?

Go back and look at the video and look at the rickety fence with a dumbell weight put there to block a hole in it. This is where his dogs got through to enter a neighbor's yard and almost eat her dog alive.

I had next door neighbors who had one, and I stood in my back yard and watched it rip the planks out of the fence like tissue paper one at a time to get at my yorkie.

SO they garage door was open, they were NOT in their crates, and out they came to practically eat this lady and her dog.

I really don't need 100 posts attached to this about how gentle some are and it is all in how they were raised yada yada, this breed had the capcacity to inflict great harm on other animals and people.

I see to it that my girl NEVER get out loose for their protection, so if you have a pit bull, it is YOUR responsibility to keep it controled and under supervision at all times, regardless of it's personality, THAT is my point.

I used to job at 4:00 AM, and at least 3 times I had to walk my neighbor's pit back home as I found her like 3 streets over.

You need a strong chain link fence with barriers dug underneath (in case they try to burrow out), PERIOD.

...and I agree with you 100 percent,,, I'm Black, I don't mind saying so, and Pits are the "weapon show dog" of choice and status among young black men, if you don't have one, you ain't happening. It's all about show, then they will be on to the next big thing, but problem is dogs live longer than the latest style.

There was a time when you had to have a German Shepard, Then a Doberman, then a Rotweiler, Now nothing else is in style but a pit, and that is a FACT, I live in this community, I am of this community, and I am not afraid to tell the truth.

this is just another case of stupid people owning dogs that are too powerful for them. You cannot keep pits caged up in a garage with the door open. Of course they were provoked. i'd be pretty pissed too if i were in a cage watching people and dogs walk by freely. the owner does not deserve to own any breed of dog, let alone a pit bull and his privileges should be taken away from him.

I was thinking the same thing, that the dogs were harried from being confined like that. Also there are few places they can run really free to burn off all that excess energy, after all, these dogs are like athletes and very muscular.

Did I ever tell you about the time I was walking the track outside of my school after school, and these young men came on the school campus with a pit that they had tied to a full size car tire with log chains, and made the dog drag the tire behind him to build up muscle? They were honestly preparing him to fight. I called the aniamal control people, and by the time they got there, they were gone. It really upset me.

I don't hate pits, I don't hate any dogs, I hate the stupid people that use them for status, raise them for the wrong reasons, and don't keep them contained to keep everyone safe.

I have a girlfriend in ATL who has pits and hers are like babies, and she feels the same way about them as I do my yorkies.

Some, not all. In GA, you see a lot of people of various ethnicities with those dogs.
What a sad story. Absolutely tragic!

True! My son owns a REAL purebred American Pit Bull Terrier, who is one of the sweetest and most gorgeous dogs I've ever known. Most people don't realize that a lot of dogs that people claim to be Pit Bulls are not purebred (Staffordshires, Presa Canario, Ca de Bou, Cane Corso...and the list goes on) but mistaken for the APBT, and are either in the hands of ignorant people, being neglected by their owners, or trained to produce negative habits. Those other breeds are NOT the same and do not have the same temperment as the APBT. The APBT is an intelligent dog that is loyal and family oriented. If raise properly they make one of the most outstanding family pets anyone can ever have.

Honey these guys buy the puppies from a pen out on the Costco parking lot, they don't research breeds and do the right thing.

There is this show going around the country now that is a broadway style show of 101 dalmations. They have about 50 something dogs live on stage and they do amazing things, all of them are rescue and shelter dogs, probably turned in by people who don't understand how quirky and energy filled a dalmation can be.

These guys haven't a clue as to what to do with pits.

They're sharks on legs.

My son has one. He lives upstairs, so his dog lives upstairs. Both Cindy and Reesie are terrified of it and I make certain that there's a lot of space between them. I just wish my wife would see the danger.

That is the problem. They are ignorant. But not every one that owns an APBT is like this and it's sad that the good ones get pulled in with the bad ones.

When my son was wanting one I insisted that he get one from a good breeder and it be an APBT, and not one of the knockoffs that people call Pit Bulls. Even though he's a grown man on his own, he's MY son so he listened...LOL The wildest thing that he does is run like the flash to jump in Ladybird Lake. Then you have to literally go in and make him get out. He's a big time serious swimmer and has been swimming on weekends since he was 3 months old, starting the same week of those shots. He's now 18 months old. I told my son he should be a water rescue dog.

That's sad that the babies have to be scared like that

He is. Well maybe I should say who? LOL My son better be or act like it. I'm one of those mama's that won't stand for crap. His dog...named Barack...yes after the President is very smart and loved. I babysitted him a few times.

I feel so terrible for the lady that was attacked and her poor dog. I really hope something is done about this. That fool in the video needs his dogs taken away, period! I read the comments attached to the article and it seems this guy lets those dogs out a lot. The way he keeps them is a disgrace and I bet you anything they are abused. They are also some back yard junk Pit that most of these fools get. Like you said, in the parking lot at Costco. I have read many stories of people and their dogs being attacked while walking. It is too scary. I am moving to an area outside Memphis in the Spring, and in the neighborhood I know a lot of people have big dogs. I told my future husband that I will not be walking my baby in our neighborhood. I will take her to a park somewhere or go walking on the Navy Base.
