| ![]() You will definitely get any help you need here! I'm sure you will do great :]. I just did a lot of google research before picking up my yorkie but I've really not had her long to give you any advice unless your yorkie happens to be hypoglycemic? =P

| ![]() My tip to you. Start potty training as soon as you get home. Decide right now if you want him to potty outside or potty on a pee pad. Stick with a schedule that will work for you. Feed your puppy at a certain time only. Oh...and if you see him pee don't let it slide. Let him know right away that he did something wrong. ( even if they are giving you the cutest innocent face in the world - I got sucked in but now I'm paying for it big time. lol.....constant carpet cleaning it not fun after the......5th time and counting) Do NOT feed your dog human food or let him know what it is. lol. . . That is my biggest regret. Introducing human food to Libbie. Oh and if you do decide to feed him human food decide on what and stick to just that. Don't give him a verity - not only will he be having major diarrhea he would also be hooked and know that there is better tasting food that he can have rather than his plain ole dog food and boy are they smart. They will strave themselfs and make you feel all bad so you feed them the human food. Oh and for human food IF you decide to give him - make sure he earns it...kinda like a treat. ![]() I hope this helps a little. . . . there is so much more on here you can learn. These are just the two that I wished I would have stuck to. Now I'm regretting it. LOL... but I'm not giving up. I just have to train harder. One last thing - not will you only be training your yorkie.....you gotta be training yourself and others that will deal with him on a dailly basis. ![]()

carrots are the only human food I give my babies and that is for a treat. Baby peas are also good although my babies do not really care for them. Unless they have bad tummies than I heard rice and chicken. Some can be allergic to chicken and grains. My Miracle is allergic to rice and also I heard that rice can bind up the puppy. Pure pumpkin is good for both constipation and diarehha, not sure why for both but one of the nice folks on this site says it works, I tried it and it does. Miracle is 4 and had babies in July, we lost one but kept the boy Rebel, he is not 13 weeks and my vet said he is really in his terrible 2's in human age. Let your baby know that you are boss, when they are good and when they are bad, and to make sure no matter what you do, you follow through!!

make sure they have SAFE toys to chew on, their little teeth hurt and will hurt you. Don't ever allow for them to bite you when they play and teach them that it is ok for them to lay on their backs when you play and pet them. Feed them GOOD quality puppy food and when and if you need to switch brands do it slowly so their tummy's do not get upset. I read a lot and asked and am still asking questions to all these wonderful folks on this site but have learned a lot. We rehomed Miracle a week before she had her babies and Rebel is the first furbaby I have owned from the time he was born. We also have a dashaund but we got him when he was almost five months old and bigger than these little babies.

| ![]() I would go to the petstore and buy a puppy book or the Yorkshire Terrier book to learn.

| ![]() I am a second time Yorkie owner & currently have a 4 month old puppy. I have learned that most of the concerns I have for her revolve around her small size. For example, she is so frisky that she tends to get underfoot when you aren't paying attention; I place a cat bell on her collar so that I can always be aware of her location. Yes, the jingle can be annoying (for both of us) particularly when she is playing, but I see the noise as essential to her safety. I'm sure some would disagree, but I also give Daisy free access to her dry food at all times. It is easy to monitor her appetite when I know I have given her a 1/4 cup of food around the same time each day. If she is eating regularly, I have no need to worry about hypoglycemia, etc. (Of course, it is much easier to potty train when you have definite meal times.) Also, I have three cats in my home that literally dwarf my new puppy; I have purchased a collapsible (net & canvas) 'house' for her to stay in at night & when I am away. There is a zippered door that I can close or leave open for her to come & go to eat, sleep, or potty on a small pad throughout the day. (I cut the smallest puppy pads in half.) I can also zip up or unzip the ceiling so that the cat's won't jump inside when I can't supervise. Hope this helps! |
