| How many yorkies can pee on a pad? I am training the girls to use the litterbox with pee pad inside. Had been going just fine but now I am wondering if there is an issue with multiple dogs peeing on the same pad or something (the trainer advised me that this was yet another disadvantage of having 2 puppies) :-) Anyway I noticed that Lily sometimes will sniff the pad and then decide to go on the mat area near the litterbox instead. Also I was perplexed by the fact that I would pick up the litterbox to change it and there would be urine under the box. That had never happened before, so I susupected it was Lola (new puppy) but couldn't figure out how it was happening. This morning I saw her putting her feet up on the side of the box but not going all the way inside just standing on the edge and peeing out the back. So mystery solved! I think it may have been too wet for her to step in the box. In the morning they both pee and it can get sort of wet until it gets absorbed. This usually happens prior to my waking up. Since these issues just started when Lola arrived I am guessing that it has to do with the fact that there are now 2 of them. I always quickly remove any poop from the pad and if I see it is wet or more than 2 pees on it I change it. Any suggestions??Also, my dog walker told me that I should not change the pads in front of the girls but need to remove the girls from the area and change the pads in secret???? I guess the alpha dog/master isn't supposed to be the cleanup girl too. |

| Hmmmm....I have never hid the fact that I change the pads. Not sure that really matters. I have not really bought in to a lot of the Alpha dog advice though. I think my dogs know I am in charge and I do lots of things they say will mess up the alpha dog idea. I also have 4 dogs and they will all use the pads at times. Only the youngest, Rocky uses the pads all the time. The others mostly go outside but have used the pads more since Rocky has been with us. Used to be they only used a pad when I was gone. In fact, I only put down a pad when I was leaving the house. But now with Rocky needing pads all the time (I hae not convinced him to go outside yet), they all seem to hit the pads occasionally even when they have just been outside. I too, change the pads whenever I see 2 or more pees and pick up the poop as soon as I see it so Rocky does not play with it and even more so for a cleaner home. I order the larger sized pads from YT vendor RDB911. With the larger pads, I have found less problem with them hitting the pad, or standing only partially on it. They still will occasionally go off the side, just a peril of pad use. But the larger pads really help. Only problem is I have not found a pad holder to fit the larger pads, so just have to put them on the floor alone.

Thanks, I salute the moms who use the wahables, not sure I want to have to wash them tho. I don't really even like rolling up the disposables. Hands get all wet with pee. In the litterbox pee will go under the pad and into the box. Can't train them for outside as I work all day. Easier to just toss out. Also, since I am using the litter box larger pad would not solve the problem.

| I use one pad for both mine (and did with both my previous yorkies as well) with no problems at all. They both go on the same pad. Every once in a blue moon Ollie will be too close to the edge and lift his leg and the pee will be part on/part off the pad and will seep underneath the pad a bit which requires cleanup. But that's not his fault (we always joke that it's not his fault because he's such a big boy with such a big ole weiner, he can't help it...lol!!!) I've bought pee pads for about 15 years now and by far the best deal I've found is the human incontinence pads at Sams (or Costco). They come in a box of 120 and are about $25. The pads are very large, I think 3ft by 2ft. I put one down every morning and throw it away every night. You can find them by the adult Depends at Sams in the health section. One box usually lasts us several months. Also, the boxes the pads come in are great! Very sturdy with holes on each side for handles. We keep them and use them for everything. We are so embarassed sometimes because when we come home and open the garage door, there are about 679 adult incontinence pad boxes lined up on our shelves. We store Christmas stuff, and electrical cords and all sorts of stuff in them. I"m sure people passing by that might glance in think we're running a nursing home or something!!! ♥Tiny Tia my Furbaby♥ Donating Member | Yep , Tia can. At home she uses the garden but when we stayed in a doggy friendly hotel she used the pad. In fact where I point and say wee wees , thats where she will go lol. Pees on command lol , which is handy when its raining.

That is funny!! I can see it now. BTW-can you cut the pads or is that too messy? I would need them a bit smaller for the litter box. The pads might not solve my immediate problem of them not peeing where they should but would certainly cut down on the cost. Thanks

| I don't know if it's okay for me to post this link, if not admin just remove it, but here are the pads I get from Sam's: Sam's Club - Member's Mark® Comfort Shape? Underpads And it says they are 23" by 36" and $24.48 for a box of 120. I'm telling you, they are the best buy out there if you use tinkle pads for your babies. You definitely couldn't cut them because they are filled with some fluffy cottony type stuff that would spill out. But you could just fold one end under to make them smaller/shorter. One pad does both of mine for a whole day. They each pee on it about 2-3 times for a total of 5-6 pees, then I toss it and put out a fresh one the next morning. I also keep one at the foot of the bed by their big-boy steps (what we call their doggie steps) and if they have to tinkle in the night they just go right down their steps to the pad, tinkle, then right back up to bed. |

| I just wanted to add my response quickly, I have not read thru the other responses. My first vet told me that I should not "clean-up" in front a (specifically a yorkie). She said that it shows them that they can go somewhere else. I use the larger pads (36 x 32/36?) This seemed to solve the problem of them peeing on the edge. I've never used a litter box for them so I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not. I had 2 cats and one of them would not use the box if it had more than 1 day worth of mess in it! So I had enough of litter boxes. lol I can leave the pad down for more than 2-3 pees whereas I used to change the smaller ones every 3rd time. Poop gets picked up right away. I will change it at night though when they go into the pen...I would want to sleep with all that smell. They are also outdoor trained too. Good luck.
