I am training the girls to use the litterbox with pee pad inside. Had been going just fine but now I am wondering if there is an issue with multiple dogs peeing on the same pad or something (the trainer advised me that this was yet another disadvantage of having 2 puppies) :-) Anyway I noticed that Lily sometimes will sniff the pad and then decide to go on the mat area near the litterbox instead. Also I was perplexed by the fact that I would pick up the litterbox to change it and there would be urine under the box. That had never happened before, so I susupected it was Lola (new puppy) but couldn't figure out how it was happening. This morning I saw her putting her feet up on the side of the box but not going all the way inside just standing on the edge and peeing out the back. So mystery solved! I think it may have been too wet for her to step in the box. In the morning they both pee and it can get sort of wet until it gets absorbed. This usually happens prior to my waking up. Since these issues just started when Lola arrived I am guessing that it has to do with the fact that there are now 2 of them. I always quickly remove any poop from the pad and if I see it is wet or more than 2 pees on it I change it. Any suggestions??Also, my dog walker told me that I should not change the pads in front of the girls but need to remove the girls from the area and change the pads in secret???? I guess the alpha dog/master isn't supposed to be the cleanup girl too.
