| Sry I'm a new owner as well and am not sure but I think from what I've read so far is it's personal choice and if the ears start to fall then shaving might help make them lighter to stand up sorry I can't be more help |

| It's a personal choice. I just got Madison's ears tipped. If she is young and trying to get her ears up, that may help.

| never listen to anyone who says "its a boy thing" or a "girl thing" with a yorkie because with yorkies, its never one or the other. its almost always choice. boys wear topknots. and bows. girls sometimed have their hair cut and don't have topknots both have their ear tips shaved (or not if you don't like it) if you aren't in the show ring, it doesn't matter so much.

| thank you so much, that advice sounded perfect, i must admit, i took Zoe in to get her long face hair trimmed, always in her mouth and full of her food, when i went to pick her up, her TOP KNOT WAS GONE!!!!! Oh well, it will grow back, i hope,,,,, |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | sounds like your groomer doesn't know what he/she is doing. all yorkies regardless of sex get their ears tipped unless the owner doesn't want it. I also don't do it if they have floppy ears and are past the age of getting them to stand up. i think it looks funny. Also your groomer cut off the top knot without asking you. obviously if the dog has longer hair there or comes in with a bow the groomer should think to ask you if you want to keep it. i know i do, and if i forget to ask at the time of drop off i call the owner and ask before i do anything.

| Yes it just depends on what the owner likes. I have a 3 yr old girl who I keep her body cut short but keep the top knot on her head. The groomer cut it off and cut the hair on her face so short that is taking forever to grow back. It has now been 4 months and her top knot is not long enough to put up without pieces falling in here eyes! I didn't get too upset at the time but very upset right now wondering when it will get long enough! My other two keep full coats and only trimmed when the hair sweeps the floor. I cut #1 because her texture is different than my other 2 and doesn't lay as pretty. I tip #1's ears but have not tipped the other 2. I have thought about it though...
