Let's not forget about health testing as well. Bile Acid testing, OFA for patella's and hips, CERF, and DNA.

 | multi colored Yorkies I am still new at this Yorkie stuff with my black and white Morkie, Belle. I guess I knew that I wanted either a Yorkie or a Maltese and found them both to be too expensive after the costs we incurred with losing our Schnauzer. I was lucky to find Belle from a breeder who I could go to see the litter. Most of the puppies looked like mama Yorkie. Belle was different but what made me choose her was she also chose me. I can't say I'm for intentionally breeding to get dogs that are different from the standards and then charging a lot more money. Yorkies are a purebred and I wonder if breeding for difference isn't going to end up going wrong. Belle was bred by two purebreds intentionally to produce Morkies but they were not nearly the cost of a purebred Maltese or Yorkie. My thinking is you buy for love unless you plan on showing. Belle was bought to be my little girl to snuggle with and love and help heal a broken heart and she is worth 10 times what I paid for her in the love I receive. |

You are so right. I know of a few parti breeders who feel the same as I do. Our goal is to breed the parti yorkie to a standard (except for color) equal to today's show yorkie. Hopefully...soon, there will be a standard in place for all reputable parti breeders to follow.

I totally agree with Diana (Greenwood Biewer) that these are the same dogs as both can be traced back to one kennel in England.

Yes, there are situations where there are unforseen issues, like c-sections--that's the exception, not the norm. The biggest issue would be paying the 4000 for the stock to begin with. Breeders with CH traditional colored Yorkies don't charge that much...what would make that particular dog any different?

This is new information to me that the Parti and the Biewer can be traced back to a kennel in England. Where are you getting your info from? Any leads towards researching this would be appreciated. I am also fascinated with Mr. Antonucci's contribution to the breed and I was unaware that he breed and showed Partis.

Most of us have paid good money for our partis and know exactly where they came from.

It's just a club that has set rules and guidelines for their members. I do not belong to their club for the same reason that I don't belong to many other clubs, simply because I do not believe in their rules. I am not trying to change the look of the YTCA standard, I am just breeding nice healthy, sound beautiful dogs. Many show breeders are not concerned with health, they just want a champion, and are not the least concerned with health or temprament. Just because a dog looks perfect does not mean that it should reproduce. And just because a dog has a color fault does not mean that it shlould not reproduce. Perhaps putting some variety back into the breed could help to keep the lines healthy. Last edited by JeanieK; 09-18-2009 at 02:49 PM.
