| why ship if you don't have to I"m just curious here since shipping is so hard on the pup, why don't people buy from breeders close to them? I know there has to be enough reputable breeders in each state that we could quit taking risk with shipping puppies. With so many horror stories out there about shipping i'm surprised reputable breeders do ship. They take all these precautions to find good homes take excellent care of pups and mom, yet they put the pups in danger by shippin. Makes no sense to me. I could see if a breeder needed to bring in dif lines into her program then it wouldd be more of a necessity buy buying from a breeder half way across the world from you whne you have a perfectly good breeder in your area makes no sense to me.to me I"d rather support breeders in my state and surrounding states it' s like supporting a store in the next town instead of the one in your own town.. I'm not judging anyone here just was curious as to why it's done this way.

| I'd be extremely cautious to purchase a puppy and have it shipped to me... I don't know why, that just sounds so wrong. lol. It's like a living thing, a DOG at that, and I'm like expecting it like a package in the mail or something, just weird to me haha.

| I think it is wrong too. I was impressed with a breeder recently that had 3 female pups. She was willing to reduce the price of her pups by the price of the buyer's airline ticket so they would personally come pick up their new pup. That way everyone got to meet each other, see where the pup was from, and the puppy got to fly back in the passenger compartment where it belongs. Yorkies aren't luggage. I think there are usually good quality pups within driving distance too. They are sometimes hard to find. Some of the best breeders have to be found word of mouth as they do not advertise.

| Thats the way I feel about it too. I love it when i'm on puppyfind and I see breeders that post absolutely no shipping. I'm happy to see i'mnot the only one that feels this way. Since I have MIley I couldn't imagine sticking her in a crate all by herself then puttin her on a plane in a strange scaryplace..thereis no way I"d do that to my baby or anyone elses for that matter. There is a breeder in my area..she has hand delivery for her babies no matter where they go she has a person fly with the baby to where they re going..i hope to see more of this if people are going to continue to ship..

| shipping Three of mine were "shipped" to me from Arizona. They rode in a soft sided carrier in the woman's lap. I see nothing wrong with that, it was like picking up a friend or relative at the airport. I do not and would not agree with them going into the cargo area ever. The reason I got my three shipped to me is because I like the puppies this breeder has and I have a good established relationship with her. Each one I get, I know will be within standard and well socialized, and a welcome addition to our family.

| People have different ideas of what "reputable" breeders are. The majority of breeders are backyard breeders and not someone many of us who do their research would get a puppy from. Here are a couple of good comparisons. Lawrence County Humane Society Abuse and Adoption Center Backyard Breeder vs. Reputable Breeder If you look on the YTCA breeder's list, there are only a handful of breeders in each state. What more and more breeders and puppy buyers are choosing is having your puppy carried in the the cabin. We have a member on another forum who works for Delta both she and her husband offer this service. |

| If they can ride inside the cabin with someone then it's ok, but I don't believe in putting a dog in cargo. I don't think it's wise to buy a puppy without going to the breeders home anyway. Buyer beware if you do.

| Introducing new lines into your program is a very good reason to ship, IMO. We have a litter of Australian Shepherds that come from two lines in which the mating of these has been much anticipated by some people. We are actually selling one to a lady in Germany. She trains and competes with Aussies and has been wanting a pup from my Stormie's line for some time now. When she heard who she was mated to, she jumped first in line for a pup. She is flying to Texas though to pick him up although she has shipped without flying herself before. I'm glad for that.
