| How do you get pee smell out of the carpet??? Are there any magical cleaners? Has anyone used Oxyclean? I think Bailey goes in the middle of the night off the piddle pad and now I have to search for it. It's an overwhelming smell when I walk up the stairs. I have to clean the carpet! Any suggestions????

| I've heard nothing but FABOLOUS things about Nature's Miracle from other YT members so I bought it when Kaji had an accident in the car. (He peed on my lap) I used it on my black seats and got great results! No smell, no staining, no nothing. He also had an accident this weekend at my parents house who have a light blue carpet. I used it there too and again no smell, no staining, no nothing. I got my bottle at PetSmart. I'm actually going to go buy a second bottle for my house as I left the one I bought this weekend at my parent's house.

| EASY ONE!! Use a pet enzyme cleaner, it's the ONLY thing that gets the smell out which is super important if you don't want the spot to be your puppies new toilet?? dogs will go back to the same spot they peed in before if the smell is still there... here's a good example of pet enzyme cleaners: PetZyme |

| I think so... i'm googling it and finding that it might not work on deep set-in stains and that for those you might need a professional carpet cleaner or rent a steamer from Hy-vee or where ever you can get one... you can always try it and see if they come out and stop smelling, if not try the carpet steamers. |

| What we do to avoid carpet stains Quote:
make sure to try and always catch the mess when it happens so you can use the enzyme before it sets in... i think i remember Victoria Stillwell on It's Me or the Dog using a pet enzyme on a lady's set in stained rug and that worked, so hopefully it will work best thing would be to move the potty pads to a linoleum or tile floor not carpet so he/she can't pee on carpet...we actually use potty pads on our kitchen floor and while Sadie is in training we have our whole living room blocked off with baby gates and we have blankets down, if she starts to have an accident, we always catch her in the act (watching her all the time, or else she's crated up) we say "NO" and ring her bell with her paw and take her outside to pee or finish...the blankets make for easy clean up, just throw them in the wash machine and let it take care of the mess, we always use the pet enzyme under the spot on the blanket just in case the smell got to our carpet...usually there is never a spot that seeps through the blanket to the carpet... good luck!!

| I LOVE Victoria Stillwell! The only problem I have with that is during the night. He doesn't hold his pee through the night and I can't crate him. So I keep them down on the carpet through the night and I think that's when he makes the mess. I just don't know what to do! He doesn't make the mistake when I'm awake, because the piddle pad is on the tile and I watch him like a hawk! ideas? Quote:

| i'll try some ideas Quote:
if you really don't want to or he's not good with crates, try an exercise pen...it's just like a little corral for dogs, you can buy a piece of linoleum mat or flooring at like home depot or lowes and put that under his x-pen so he's got a flooring under his butt and use the potty pads in the x-pen with him on that linoleum.. or if you really can't even pen him up in an ex-pen or play pen, just try to put the linoleum piece down in his sleepin area with a pee pad and try to get him to use that at night on the tile??? i don't let mine run around at night, she's crated by the bed next to me..she does really well sleeping in there and cries out a little at 3am to go out to pee outside... dogs do well in crates because of a natural instinct not to wet their sleeping area...but if the pup is really not into a crate or you just don't like to use them, you might try the x-pen, play pen or just tile your floor OR: use blankets on the flooring area that he/she sleeps in at night, keep her/him at least closed into your bedroom or something so they can't roam the whole house. did that help/make sense???

| he FREAKS out when he's gated away from me and starts peeing all over the place OUT OF SPITE! I don't know if he can hold his pee because i've never tried to crate him at night... Maybe I need to try one of these two things tho. Maybe it's my own selfish reasons that I don't want him crated, but I also don't want my carpet smelling like pee either! We don't have a big house... where could I get a small ex pen? I've never even looked into them. Quote:

| How i use the crate Quote:
the crate training method works amazing wonders for us so far. i've taught her that her crate is her den, her bed and her comfort zone, it's not punishment and it's not used to keep her penned up so i can relax...it's only used for good/positive things...she's got a blanket in there, she's got a toy usually and she gets a treat for going in there on her own. i started the day she came home to introduce her to it, i'd put in a treat or toy and let her go in and out when she wanted...good way to start him...i'd sit right beside her when she was in there and praise her the whole time...then i'd try to shut the door and stay right there with her, if she was not whining she got to come out, if she cried i'd say shhh and wait until she stopped to let her out. at night, i put her into the crate saying kennel up. i shut the door and i say lay down night night, she lays down now (didn't at first) and she'll go to sleep, sometimes she fights it a little and will whine or scratch the door. i say shhhh lay down night night and she finally has gotten it...praise her like crazy if she lays down...i always keep the lighting low when she's going to bed and turn the lights out when she lays down for awhile and let her sleep. she's really great about whining when she needs to pee and not whining after sleeping otherwise...and i can usually get her back to sleep after her pee break using the same lay down methods i always lay beside her crate door until she lays down to rest i sometimes use a blanket over the coffee table/night stand her crate lays under if she's having a hard time resting, the darkness especially during the day makes her sleepy and she relaxes more... always keep a cuddly toy in with her until she's used to it... i also her first night in the crate put the shirt i wore all day in there with her to keep her feeling safe and comfy. hope you can use some of these tips to help if you try to crate train the pup...they can't hold it all night at first when they are young, but the only way i know to get them to learn to sleep and not pee all over is to get them to LOVE their crate and sleep there at night... good luck and ask anymore questions if i missed something here. i might also mention when Sadie has had enough of my neices and nephews she always goes into her crate which sits in the living room at all times when she's not sleeping at night by my bed...she uses it as her safe zone to get away from us or the rowdy kids when she's had enough... make it positive and good for your dog he'll appreciate having his own space... the x-pen is great for a larger space, but put a crate or bed in there for sleeping in a "den like" area as well. thanks

| not out of spite Quote:
give it a try maybe?? and remember he's a baby, it's never out of spite a dog does something...they don't know what spite is really, they're just either anxious or scared, or something just excited when they release their bladder like that...teach him it's a good place to be, it's not punishment and it's not keeping him away from you because you are right there with him.
