What kind of yorkie is she?

I just did a google search to see if I can come up with the answer.

One post on yahoo answers, said they get their first period around 8 months old. I clicked another link and it said anywhere from 11 to 13 months, and that you can start to see signs 2 weeks before.

As I mentioned before she was a gift so I dont know exactly how old she is. But we are guessing she either 8 or 9 months old.

My husband has a male (mut) dog and we've been noticing that hes been all up in her area and my husband calms to have seen the male trying to have sex with her.

Anything specific I should be looking for as far as signs? Or are the months correct as far as when they get their first period?

I'm a bit confused. I have read on here several times that "blue/green" reflection is silky and red/orange reflection indicated cottony. Pictures of my Rily have shown both, depending, I guess, on how the light hit his eyes. He isn't 6 months old yet, so maybe he is too young to tell. His head/face/belly/legs seem silky. but that back is full of long fluffy cottony fur that is matting just at the point where the color/texture is changing. He is beginning to hate it when I try to brush him! I have ask about this on other threads, but no one has answer my questions.

Congratulations on this beautiful yorkie girl.
Her eyes are showing up green which means chances are she
will have a straight silky coat as opposed to a thicker cottony one.
Just what I would want too. Only one Yorkie no matter what

Hi and Welcome to YorkieTalk!!!

What is your male dog and is he neutered? Are you planning on breeding them? If not, I would definately recommend getting both of the spayed/neutered as soon as you can. She is at the age that she could go into heat and yes, she could get pregnant the first time and even if they didn't tie... which isn't good for her. How much do they both weigh?

If you look at all the classes of dog breeds (sporting, working, hound, terrier, herding, toy, non working, and misc group) yorkie, although are terriers, fall into the "toy" group. That is where you probably think of them as "toy" in size, where in reality that is their group. If I am not mistaken, and someone correct me if I am, yorkshire terriers are the only terriers that are not in the terrier group but in the toy group.

Also, under yorkshire terrier, there is not sub category, so "teacup" is not an officially recognized word. Just any yorkie that is 7 lbs or less is standard, but they can be much bigger than that and there is nothing wrong with that.

If it is quite big, it may be part silky terrier. And to add even more confusion LOL, yorkie coats are described as either silky or cottony, so you could have a purebred yorkie with a silky coat and call it a "silky yorkie" and people may think you have a silky/yorkie mix. LOL confused now? good.

Intresting post I had no idea that the blue meant cottony coat and green meant silky...Karlee's shows up blue in the pics so what can I expect for her to look like as she gets older will she be more frizzy haired look? Just wondered thats pretty neat another thing I learned today

Hi, I'm new at this, but I have read on several other threads that blue/green both indicate a silky coat and gold/red/orange indicates a cottony coat. However, I also read that the age of the dog needs to be at least 6 months before this can really make a prediction. Puppies younger than 6 months will most likely reflect blue/green. My daughter's yorkie is a little over 6 months and her eyes look golden in most pictures, but her coat is very silky already, so I'm not sure this really can predict their coat texture. My Rily is 17 weeks and his eyes had reflected both blue/green and gold in pictures. I don't know if that is because of his age or the light/angle of the flash from my camera, etc., so I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

congrats on your baby. Teacup, tiny, micro ect are simply descriptive words people use to describe a smaller than akc standard yorkie. It is not a different type of yorkie. I personally love the smaller babies that we help bring into the world, but some people couldn't stand to have one so small. All a matter of preference. Just don't buy one that costs 4000k simply because it says "teacup" . Buy one that you love!! Love is priceless.

Incorrect. Blue, Green/Turqouise, even a yellowish means silky. Red/brown means cotton.

Glad to see this post. I'm very confused by the eye reflection predictions I've read on YT because Rily's have done blue/green and gold, but he is still only 17 weeks old.
