| lt really depends on what you want to spend; 1. food-prices vary 2. water- some people buy bottled water 3. toys 4. grooming- will you do it yourself or get personal groomer. 5. clothes-if you buy or you really don't have too it's a personal choice. Thats excluding any medical occurances It really depends on what you want to spend.

Solid Gold (pretty good food) I think its 40 dollars for the big bag. Puppy Pads- about 150 a month 60$ I learned how to do all the grooming myself (free) if you were to pay depends but usually 40-60 dollars Toys, clothes- once in a while I buy them new toys, and I dont dress them at all, leashes replaced only if they are worn out, OH TREATS gee whiz how could I forget, we buy a lot because we are going through obedience training for all three so we spend about 20-30 dollars a month for treats. Don't forget enzyme spray if they pee on the floor Dental treats-Greenies are expensive but my yorkies love them. So ultimately without medical cost maybe$100-150 but that is for three dogs. Don't get me started on medical expenses

If you do professional grooming, add another $35-$55 every six weeks so averaging that as a monthly expense ...... $24-$37 a month. Speaking of grooming, the supplies can vary lot too. You can buy some Walmart dog shampoo or you can buy top of the line systems from shampoo, conditioner, sprays, detanglers, calming sprays, top knot gel, perfumes, you name it. Tools can range from a dimestore brush, to the more sophisticated Madan or Christensen brushes, butter combs, special pet hair blowers all manner of scissors, pluckers, and pads. If you really like to spoil your yorkie with lots of clothing choices, all the latest toys, and designer carriers .... well add another $50 a month or so. I would say realistically we spend anywhere from $50 - $150 a month for our precious pups. The cost per pup goes down for multiples as they can share some things.

| I doubt if I spend over $20 a month on my dog. The first year was really expensive as I was buying X pens, crate, grooming supplies, monthly grooming, harnesses, leashes, clothes, toys, beds, etc. Now I rarely buy anything like that. My dog is very obsessive over toys, so we no longer buy toys for him. We only give him toys as a special treat since he goes so insane for them. I learned to groom him myself, so we don't have that expense anymore. Our main expense now that he is older is quality food and treats. I feel my yorkie is by far the least expensive pet I have to care for.

| You have had some good answers! it all depends on what you want to spend. I try to save 20 to 40 dollars in a savings account for possible medical expenses. Her food is not that expensive. I buy a big bag and it lasts 60 to 75 days. 35.00. Other than that it is up to you. Carriers, clothing, harnesses, crates, car seats, strollers, grooming. You can buy retail, or UEC, (used excellent condition) on ebay . It is all up to you! |

| Just make sure that you do have money for medical expenses you are not planning on....not just their yearly exams I just spent $265 today at the vets for one of my dogs because he had been vomiting and was very lethargic... he is tiny...so dehydration is a major concern with him....or should I say with me! He needed fluids, meds, and blood work..... luckily his brothers who also vomited bounced right back or the vet bill would have been almost triple..

| I think it really depends on how much you spoil them. Specially the first months. Oh my. Good luck with two, I have enough with one . Ahhh but he's my only kid . They're definately worth it though.

It's important to remember that as dogs age, they get more and more expensive even if they don't have any major health issues. Most need yearly dentals which can run anywhere from $200-$500 depending on your are of the country. After seven, senior work ups with complete blood work, thyroid panels, etc. are necessary every year. They run about $300. Toy breed dogs are prone to unplanned vet bills. A little snack from the table or a raid on the garbage can can result in pancreatitis - figure about $1,000 plus. A jump off the couch can cause anything from an ACL tear to a broken leg ...surgery runs in the thousands. The key is to expect the unexpected and set aside money every month in a special account for vet bills. Remember, emergency vets require upfront payment before they will treat your dog no matter how sick they are. This is a good article to read. I personally think the high end of $38,000 for a 14 year old dog is conservative. Lady is 14 and I have spent way more than that! The Cost of Owning a Dog | |

| Cost Varies I've gone thru 8+ foods for my Yorkshire Terrier. Some of these dogs are picky and that is what I have experienced. I've tried the inexpensive to even cheaper foods, but he didn't like them or didn't eat much of it. I'm feeding him Royal Cainine Yorkshire Terrier brand which runds close to $18/small bag,not including the tax. Then there is treats for training I use, costs vary. I have also dental treats (greenies), nylabones, and various other treats. He's picky and some days he doesn't want one treat I have, but he'll take the other type. I have him also on treat that is specific for his joints. These little dogs can have health issues sooner or later with their knees getting out of place. Luckily, mine doesn't need surgery. That can cost between $800-2,000, from what I have heard. These little guys need to have shots when they are little and yearly. More shots if you state requires it, like it is in Kentucky. You also need a special shot if he is in a training class or use the dog parks in your city. You never know when you have to go to the Vet unexpectedly for diareha, eye infections, like what I have experienced....or even when he kills a rabbit like mine did. They can get infections from the wild rabbits too. I can go on with the costs, but the others have noted to you about toys, pens, crates, etc. It is good that your asking and searching for information. Good Luck~! |

| hi Im new to yorkies I just got a yorky in march and I was just reading your posts and I too went out and bought alot of things for him. but I learned that the only thing that they care for is food, and to be healthy with lots of love. Its funny how I was never a dog lover. I hated dogs but due to depression and family matters, I felt lonely and got him as a gift and thank god for that because he is my baby and I love him sooo much I dont know what I would do withought him. He makes me smile when I come home from work, or when im crying, he stares at me and starts to kiss me and really all the toys and all the clothes in the world dont mean anything to them just alot of love. |

| Don't forget heartworm meds. 1 pill a month is about $15. And in the spring and summer flea and tick meds. About $30 a dose (1 per 4-6 weeks) I just paid $2000.00 for Trixie when she was in the hosptal. One minute they are fine...the next they are sick. She was diagnosed with pancreatitis and is fine now but I almost lost her. Was completely unexpected. Luckily I have a wonderful husband who loves these babies and had no problem paying for the unexpected bill. I had to put it on credit. So we just pinch in a little for a while. What can you do, these things happen. You really have to be ready for anything.

| Cost would vary depending on what you buy...but the basics of food, monthly heartguard and if you use frontline, plus treats, toys, chews, and grooming, around my neck of the woods, is reasonable. I have six and I don't dare keep track of what I spend on them a month, I am afraid of heart failure!
