| He isnt a hobby breeder either. A hobby breeder is very similar to a show breeder in their standards they just dont show.

really? as far as i knew a hobby breeder was just a person who bred dogs as a hobby and spent most if not all of their free time doing so...didn't know you had to have "standards" to have a hobby of dogs and puppies??? | |

| Breeders that dont follow the standards, let their pups go at a young age register with cheaper alternative registries are byb. It doesnt mean they dont love their pups any less but they are not a professional hobby breeder

| Oh for pete's sake, why not stop this all ready? I am not reading this thread any more. All it is is arguing and trying to "one-up" the other. A YT member is getting a new puppy, live with it or take your arguing to a PM.

| Changing Subject BACK to topic Hey, Just letting everyone know how I'm doing today with the waiting thing. Got a great night's sleep last night and had a good distracting night out with the in-laws to keep my mind off my girl. Watched Hell's Kitchen and got my mind off it some more. Went to PetSmart, got her some puppy wipes, looked for nutrical, they were out of it, and then i went to the vet and made her first appt. for the same day we're picking her up. Today, work is a little bit better, we had a bagel party at work over winning the tax renewal vote yesterday YAY, and i'm a little bit annoyed with my co-worker, but other than that, meeting at noon, busy day to keep my mind off of Sadie and at least it's not a slow day again...those are horrible when ur waiting and anxious. Wish me luck, it's terribly hard living without this puppy and knowing how awesome an experience i'm in for soon....just like Christmas, or waiting the night before a wedding, i wonder if i'll sleep at all Thursday. Super excited Pray for peace and busy things to keep me moving until i get her! |

Thor's Human Donating Member | This breeder advertises large numbers of breeds and mixed breeds on his website. He lets them go too early. He has only a nominal health guarantee. YT members have contacted him and he appears to have a very large number of puppies for sale (different litters), and he either knows nothing about what medical care puppies require, or is counting on his buyers not to. The registry he uses is known to be a popular one with puppy mills. The OP says that because she has spoken to this man in person, and because he is very nice in person, he must be breeding healthy dogs in humane conditions. No word about genetic testing for LP, liver shunt, or visiting the home. Everyone posted this information as kindly and clearly as they could, and the OP decided that anyone who wasn't in enthusiastic agreement with the decision to buy a puppy from this operation was hateful and attacking. The OP knows she lives in a state known for the huge number of puppy mills and has decided it's not worth the time to be careful. This is how puppy mills and the like stay in business -- a lot of us didn't know better when we got our pups, but this person doesn't care. To the OP again -- most of us here do not have show quality dogs. We support breeders who only breed yorkies, who make sure their yorkies are not carriers for genetic diseases, and probably only have a few puppies a year. $1,000 is a lot of money, but you are not buying a car, you are buying a lifetime companion. If you were as casual as you say you are about just getting a puppy from a neighbor's dog, you would go to a yorkie rescue. Or just go to the pound. I promised myself I would not respond anymore, but I want it to be clear why not everyone is beside themselves with joy that the OP is getting her pup (7 weeks old now?).

Thor's Human Donating Member | To the OP: I don't understand why you are being so careful about all aspects of starting out this pup's life (supplies on hand, planning on puppy school), EXCEPT for where the puppy comes from. It makes no sense. Also, while you keep saying $1K, I very much doubt yorkies are that expensive where you live. They are more like $700, and cheaper if you are willing to get one that is six months old.

The breeder breeds YORKSHIRE TERRIER | MALTESE | MORKIES | CHIHUAHUA | BOLOGNESE | PAPILLON | GOLDENDOODLES | and it sounds like he has a couple of litters of each breed at a time? This is not a loving "home breeder". My strong suspicion is that they are running a puppymill, if not, it's still a large scale operation. If the OP would quit defending this breeder, I don't think that everyone would be getting so worked up. There are many YT-ers who have bought their puppies from petstores, puppymills, and byb because they didn't know any better at the time. I know that YT has helped me to learn how to find a good breeder, and I will never support an irresponsible breeder again. Rachel, why not just admit that you know where you are getting Sadie from isn't the best place, but you love her already and you are buying her regardless. Just be honest I think YT-ers just keep re-hashing this argument because you are posting nice things about a breeder that doesn't appear to be that great. It's like false advertising. Hang in there...I know that you're probably about ready to *burst* with excitement. Make sure to post lots of pics when she comes home please!

I got my Coco and Pebbles from a mill also and I didn't know it. I just feel terrible about the conditions they live in. I try not to think about it. Their poor mommy!! I was uneducated and that's it. But I do agree with what you are saying. It doesn't sound to me like an honest operation. But I do wish her well with her new puppy, and I can't wait to see pictures. Love those puppies!!!

Thank you, thank you for posting this. Rachel, only two more days to go. You should bring any new dog to the vet to be checked out right away, so don't think that advice is just for you. Again, best of luck.
