| How old before you can leave him at home? How old does a yorkie have to be before you can leave him alone at home for about 10 hours? My boss is giving me 6 weeks to allow the dog to go with me to work, after which he will be 16 weeks (4 months old) He weighs about 2.5lbs and is trained on the pee pad while I have him at work. He poops before I leave for work at 7:00am and when we come home from work at 5pm. At 4 months old, is it safe to leave him home for that length of time? I'm thinking of re-adjusting his 3 meals to 6:15am 5:15pm and 9pm. I go to bed at 11pm. He's very calm and relaxed in his playpen and often sleeps most of the day until I take him out walking and playing after work. Thanks |

YT Addict | Harley was about 4 months old when I got him. My husband and I work full time and the kids don't get home from school until around 4:00. He is home from 7:30 to 4:00 by himself (so 8 1/2 hours). At first I was letting him stay in 3 rooms that had hardwood floors but he started getting into stuff. Now I keep him in a 52 inch round kennel all day and he seems to do just fine. |

| As long as he has his needs met w/water/food/pee pads, he should be fine...I've always worked, since I got Apple, and she's had to stay by herself for about 8 1/2 hrs. a day...I used to keep her in the kitchen (gated), but now she has the living room/dining room/kitchen and entry hall...The ONLY think is you have to really "baby proof" the room...For me, I have to throw the breaker switch on the plugs in the living room/dining room...I just swtiched them all off and on, 'till I found the right one, and voila, I switch it off in the morning, and switch it on in the evening...It's a "just in case" thing, as she doesn't chew electrical cords, but'cha never know w/these babies...Btw, I, totally, spend every possible waking hour w/her on my day off, and I walk her 30 minutes in the morning, before work, and 30 minutes in the evening, after work...Sometimes I don't feel like it, but it sure does help her w/her exercise, energy level, etc. etc. etc...Hope this helps... |

My friend said she can watch him after my 6 weeks are up until he is 6 months old. But when exactly do you stop feeding them 3 times a day and when you can leave him at home for up to 10 hours? | |

| Instead of feeding him 3x a day, why don't you try "free-feeding?" That's what I do with Pixel because it takes me over a half hour to get to work each day, and so I can't make it home for lunch. He seems to do well with it. He never overeats or anything and I don't have to worry about hypoglycemia. |

| Yeah, what tonyag said...I feed Apple in the morning...it's a 1/4 cup of dry food, made a little wet, and a little bit of my scrambled egg in it...She eats most of it, then I trash the rest...I leave out another 1/4 cup dry, with nothing in it, and what she doesn't eat (I don't think she eats any of it, actually, lol), I mix up w/a little something wonderful for her evening meal...But you can leave dry out all day w/no probs, and they'll munch on it, if they're hungry.... |
