Senior Yorkie Talker | OMG! Gross! So Bella just finished going #2 on her pad, yay for her! Well, as I went for a treat she was about to sit down and wait for me like she always does when she knows she's going to receive a treat for doing a good job... And OMG! She started dragging her little tush on the carpet!! Gross! LOL! I couldn't believe it. I immediately snapped her out of it. Great, one more thing to worry about! |

Thor's Human Donating Member | I don't think this is normal behavior? Your dog probably needs its anal glands expressed.

| I have my groomer do them whenever she gets a hair cut ... I just think she wants to get rid of the dingle berries

YT Addict | my dogs use to drag their butts all over everything and it means they are not draining toxins properly from their anal glands through their poop. and they are dragging their a ** on the floor because its uncomfortable and they are trying to get it out. So that's why groomers usually squeeze their anal glands and drain them during grooming. but a really good food will stop them from doing that. you need to get their poop firm they need to struggle and give it a good push when they go potty to get out all that out. A little struggle is a good thing. |

| Make sure your groomer is actually doing them, I worked at a vet office--and was surprised when many clients said, I just had the baby groomed a few days ago, and as a courtesy, we checked the glands-to find out the were full. Some say they do them, but unless you ask, they don't. Hopefully, your groomer is one of the honest ones. Dingle berries, lol--I love that word!!! I hate when my Piper gets dingle berries!!! |

| It's hysterical when my Trixie tries to do this, because she just can't do it and kind of scoots with her butt on the ground. Maybe try wiping the little hinie with a wet paper towel or a baby wipe after the baby has gone.

YT 1000 Club Member | Me too. Besides the fact that not having it cuts down on allergies. I was grossed out last time we ripped ours up. That's when I definately said no more carpet. If you think your dog dragging its rear on the floor is gross think about all the stuff that's trapped down underneath it. My groomer always asks me in an assuming way if I want a sanitary done. It's only done once about every 6-8 weeks so I always say yes please! Roxie doesn't do this often but I always know when it's time !

| I only know what I've read on this subject but I think you're supposed to check the anal glands and get them a better food with more fiber maybe. So that they can drain their own little glands when they go poop. Although I must say, I've seen dogs do the hiney drag and it kinda cracks me up. I have no idea why that is lol.

| This isn't just a habit Dogs do this when they are uncomfortable down there It can mean that they have worms .... itchy butt anal glands are bothering them or they might have some dried feces stuck to the hair down there

Thor's Human Donating Member | Yes, it can be an indication of other health issues as well, so if a dog is still doing this after getting wiped and the anal glands are expressed, it's probably time for a trip to the vet. BTW, when my groomer asks about a "sanitary", they mean a close cut around the belly and anus, not anal gland expression. It's probably different with your groomer, but thought I'd throw that out there.

| We take a hypoallergenic, fragrance-free wipie to Kimbo's little hiney after he makes "big potty". Just a quick swipe works great. If we forget, he does the hiney rub on the floor. Spoiled baby! |
