| Does the poop ever stop? Good morning all! I am sooo confused. I must be doing something wrong. Can anyone tell me why it is that my yorkie poops at 3:00am and between 5:00 and 7am when her last meal is not later than 7 the previous evening? This potty training thing is killing me! She will not tell me when she needs to go. If I don't automatically take her out, she will use it anywhere in the house. Now at 3 in the am she will whine to het out of her crate. When i let her out, she will not go directly to the door to go potty. I have to pick her up and make her go. Is this pup ever going to stop going during the night and is she ever going to let me know when she has to go.. I love her to death but I am sooo sick of watching her every move. I can't even go potty... |

LOL! NO! pooping never stops! How old is she? You have to remember these are tiny little baby's and they have tiny everything.....Yorkies are not known for being easy to house train. You have to be very consistent with them. What I would do is, before you go to bed take her outside (on a leash) and let her walk around a bit. Sadie with always go when she is for a walk. Stay out with her for a bit and if she doesn't go take her back out. You may have to do this a few times before she will go. Again...you have to be very consistent with these little ones. Good Luck!

| why don't you try training her to use a pee pad then she can go without your help or disturbing your beauty sleep. dogs are like people they get these urges

Donating YT 10K Club Member | By whining she is telling you she needs to go...she just hasn't learned where is appropriate yet or because walking stimulates their bowels to move...she has to go before she gets to the door. Dogs are usually very routine...if you feed her later in the evening...you'll delay that 3 am potty break and she won't need to go until later.

| Good luck! Our Higgins is 5 1/2 years old and he is NOT housetrained yet. We have tried everything. We gave up about a year ago. My DH is now on the second Bissell machine for cleanup every morning. Other than this, he is a PERFECT litttle gentleman. |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Another suggestion, if you have multiple exits from your house...pick one and use that one when you take her outside. Eventually she'll realize that's the door she uses to go potty....

| I would try feeding her really early mine eats breakfast around 6 am then nibbles thru out the day, she also is pretty much finished eathing by 4 or 5 pm, she poops every night around 6 630 , she cant tell me she has to go poop either I can just tell by watching her and timing it, she is fully house trained and I cant remember the last time she had an accident in the house, its just constantly watching them. I dont use a crate either so its really just being dedicated to them and learning thier actions, no different really then a real life baby... just keep taking her out and treating when she poops or pee's! At the suggestion of someone on this site I just keep saying hurry up good girl... now 7 months later she will pretty much go on command, hurry up means go potty and get a cookie.... works everytime, BUT for the first 2 months I got up at 11-2-4 am !

| Thanks for all the responses, you Yorkie veterans are a big help! She is 19 weeks old and i've only had her a month. I'm not looking for a miracle pup but i do wanna see some progress. I take her out every night before bedtime and she will not go. Often times, D'Va Rose will not even go after she eats. The pee pad is no help, all she does is tear those pads up and besides, I do not want her to think it's ok to go in the house. I know the wining is telling me she needs to go but when I take her out, she goes right for her pillow that's on the floor. Unless I make her go outside, she will act like she doesn't even have to go. I keep a strict routine with her. Are you saying that the later I feed, the later she will go? I always thought they should go within 30 minutes of eating?? Yes, we have multiple exits and we use the same one everytime. |

| Poop is forever... I would start first by purchasing an X-Pen and some Piddle Pads. This provides your puppy a secure confined area with room to play, eat & POOP during the first months that she's getting used to the rules of the house. Yes, you do need to pick up your lil' one to make it to the outside if she's not making it there in time...easier on you & your floors! With my Yorkies, I only potty trained Bella from a puppy as Abby & Phoebe came to me as rescues and were luckily for the most part potty-trained. What worked best for me with Bella was to use the x-pen and keep her to confined spaces...it's easier for them too. They feel more secure knowing this is their little space. The best analogy of this was from a trainer who asked me if I ever allowed my children when they were crawling to have free reign of the house and undiapered...ummmmm, NO! It's the same with a puppy... My girls have a routine which took awhile to get down pat but, after they eat I take them out to go potty every single time. It's easy for me since I work from home but, if you work outside the home...that's where the X-Pen comes in handy! Crating while you're at work is just no life for an animal...but, that's just my opinion. I'd also put a few piddle pads in whatever room I'm in with the puppy, too. It just enforces them to potty on their Piddle Pad. As Bella got a little older, I would move the Piddle Pads closer to the door that led to the backyard until, we finally eliminated them and voile' she's potty trained! Most importantly, it takes time & patience...lots and lots of it! Just remember, accidents will always happen and most importantly..........sht happens! Good Luck &

People complain about dogs not pooping when they take them out....the reason they don't is because they don't have to. You've paid attention to the times she's going...and that's when you take her. Just keep her on a schedule...make sure you walk her around...that stimulates them to go. Generally she will probably need to go first thing every AM... I will tell you...it probably took mine at least the 4-5 month age before they "told" me by going to the door...that they needed to go. The first time she does that...you'll know she's caught on. Btw, make sure you praise her to high heaven when she goes where it's appropriate.

| Since the feeding time seems to play a big factor, can anyone suggest a good time to feed? Right now I feed at 9:30am and 6:30pm with treats in between when she uses it in the right spot. I feed at those times because those are the times she was eating when I got her. |

| Ha i have a new name for my Baby ! Instead of "BooBear: (her name) and instead of "Poochies" (we often call her this)... She is NOW "Poo-Cheese". (Poop & Fart ) Good thing her poos and cheeses are cute, but sounds like this is not a cute prob for you -- I couldnt' agree more with miabelaamoure! We are doign same thing. And walkign her does help her bowels move. Otherwise it can 5 hours after eating that she "produces"! Quote:

| Poo-cheese, LOL!!! That's what's so confusing, I do walk her and she still will not go, at least not until 3am. We live in Florida and I don't think she likes the heat at all. So I'm thinking of changing her feeding times but am unsure of a good time. Although I do get frustrated, I'm patient because I love Tha D'Va so much! |

Donating YT 10K Club Member | If you moved the dinner time up....she should poop earlier. If you move dinner time back later than seven...she'll go later in the AM. Mine free feed...and usually wait to eat until we get to work at 8. They will all poop when we return home in the evening around 5. They eat "dinner" whenever they want...but I can tell you the youngest and smallest, Frazier, eats some at 9pm. First thing in the am....everyone has to go. The only time their afternoon "schedule" changes...is on trips when meals are served at different times....they still all go in the am though. I should say...other than weekends...for the most part when I say am...I talking 5:30AM. That is the time we get up....so it's not like we're sleeping in for hours. Sleeping in means they waited until 6:30 until someone decided...they really gotta go. LOL
