I love Munchie but im getting so tired of picking up dog poop!!Especially in my room!

when our 3 were younger we did pads then the garden ..

we used the room we use most ..sounds horrid but to get ours used to pads we took a poop from wherever they did it and stuck it on the pad

if your dog is going in the same area every time they go then move the pad there

we got them used to identifying that going on the pad was great gave treats straight after.. after a few weeks we introduced the garden to them.. we took one of their poops out there prior to asking them to go wee wee so they knew where to go

to combat working hours we use a cat flap we have had no accidents on the floor for ages and all 3 have full run of the entire house

good thing of pads and taking the time to pad train we found.. is if they ever get ill they instinctively go on a pad no matter what room they are in as long as a pad is in there with them

yorkies in our experience are the dam hardest of all dogs to toilet train our neighbor bought Binky's sister and even now at 2yrs+ they still have n0t managed to get her house broken

I think it would be great to have the litter box with the grass in it. What are those called? I'm sure someone knows what I'm talking about. I prefer mine to go outside in the grass and I think having this box would help keep from confusing her between grass and pee pads. She never cared for the pee pads and would just go on my throw rugs (and still does occasionally). I would love to give the litter box a shot to have as back up for nasty weather or when I'm going to out a few hours during the day. In the winter or during bad storms I could keep the litter box in the garage and she'd still have the feel for going to the door to go out.

Well Ive decided Tia is not a yorkie.

1. she was potty trained , completely in 2 weeks

2. she used the garden AND puppy pads at the same time.

I crated her at night and let her in the garden in the morning where she did her buissiness then left out puppy pads in the day which she used if she needed to until lunchtime , then garden and the same when I came home at 3.00.

Like everyone says , patience and praise is the key to success.

My Yorkie Bella Mia had ME trained at about a year old. I was a very slow and frustrated learner and obviously I just didnt get it Now after her schooling me, I know exactly when to let her out! I tried Pee pee pads and in return she gave me packing materials. She shredded the pee pee EVERY time in seconds. She does have an area outside she liked to use when we left the house for our walks. We took the hint and started to take her there ALOT especially after eating. She is now trained to "Go Potty" only outside rain or shine! We havent had any accidents till recently however she is pregnant and did try to wake us up. She has taught us a new lesson and now thru the pregnancy licking our faces means "Wake Up Daddy I have to pee!"

I'd just like to say, it's not just american dogs. Alfie was very difficult to house train, I used pads and sometimes he was pretty good but most times he would just tare them to shreds. Looked like we'd had a snow storm inside most days. He's almost 1 now[ wed 17th] but still has the accident. Rosie is doing o.k so long as the weather is fine, she hates the rain, but so did Alfie as a baby, though it wasn't very nice when I descovered she'd been useing the space behind the sofa as a toilet. We live and learn.

nancy 1999,you are too funny,a not even 12 week old pup is not going to be potty trained.period.not gonna happen...you must be consistant and give lots of praise...i think you should train one way or the other...pee pads or outsise...i trained bailee on pee pads but now am gradually trying to teach her its ok to go outside also but shes 9 months now

LOL! That is so funny and almost exactly what my son told me after I had gotten all excited with one of our pups doing it on the pad. He just looked at me with all of his teenage sarcasm and said, "Mom, the way that one poops, the law of probability was bound to land one on a pad eventually!" Same sort of thing as you wrote! Ah but even then we praise and give them treats. What a life! (Teen and the pup! double LOL)

We are happy if she poops in the same room as her pad! Mostly she does....but other favorites are behind the treadmill and my shower

In all honesty, we brought Winston home at 8 weeks, I know too young, but anyway, he was trained that very day to potty outside only, and he has never had a single accident, he is now 5 years old. Call me lucky or diligent...he knew where we wanted him to go potty and he only wanted to make us happy. So, I know it is not common to have a Yorkie trained at a very early age, but it is possible.

That is amazing. I must not have the "knack" at getting my message across. It always takes me a long time. Two different ladies have called me back about pups they just got from me saying thanks so much for having them pee pad trained before they got them. I must have kept the only one in the litter that was not trained! I am still getting the same number of accidents as when the whole bunch was here! Most are on the pad, but we are a long way from training this little guy!
