| nervous behavior Last weekend I went to the lake with a few friends. The house we were staying in belonged to one of my friend's grandparents and was quiet large for just the 5 of us who went. So anyways I wound up on the ground level by myself (it was like its own house complete with sitting area, kitchen, and dining area). Whenever we would go up to the main level to be with everyone else, Bailey, my 10 month old pup, would FREAK OUT. She would act so nervous and would shake the whole time I held her. Anytime I let go of her, she took off down the stairs to where we were sleeping. She wouldn't eat anything and barely drink anything either. I made her lick some of the nutrical (which for some reason--she HATES) to just make sure she was getting some nutrients. This is not the first time I have taken her on vacation with me, but this is the first time she has acted this way. I'm not sure exactly why she behaved this way, but I almost felt sorry for her wishing that I would have left her with my parents, whom she is very comfortable with, while I was away. Has anyone else experienced this and what do you think I should do next time? I go out of town quiet a bit and I would love to always take her with me, but I want to do what is best for her. |

| Maybe she ws spooked by something?? If it's never happened before & didn't happen again afterwards...I think it's safe to say that something spooked her. Mimi did something similar while back that got me very worried. It went on for a couple of days...she would come running into my room (which is also her room) & hide under the bed & she would be shaking. Then one day, she stopped & never did it again. She does shake & hide when there's thunder (even the thunder sound on the tv scares her!)...so I'm thinking some sort of sound that we couldn't hear scared her.

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Yeah, it sure sounds like something up there spooked her that maybe you didn't see. Could have just been a strange object in the distance that she didn't understand, or something like that. These guys can be pretty skittish at times. Mine freaked out a little bit while camping the first time. Didn't want to explore and didn't eat, so I did the Nutrical thing too. Great idea to carry it along, btw. I just tried to distract him with treats and games and toys. By the next time we went, he decided it wasn't so bad, and now he tolerates new experiences much better. So I say, yes, continue exposing her to new experiences and make the most of it without babying her too much. She'll get the hang of it and be a happier dog in the long run.

| Since you were with her downstairs , maybe she could hear all the noises coming from up the stairs. So when you took her up the stairs with you, she was very, very scared and upset. That is why she took off back down the stairs where she felt safe. I agree with Mike, to keep taking her with you on your vacations. She will become use to the different sounds and smells, and actually be more socialized around people.

| no, she doesn't ever really shake unless we are at the vet's office. we have people over in our home quite a bit and she never seems nervous around them. of course i take her where ever i can get away with it, and i have never noticed this behavior from her. she usually doesnt meet a stranger and is always so playful any where we are. |
