| Help... She pottied in her crate I'm so disappointed I had to go teach a class at the library and she wouldnt potty before I had to go... She went at like 1245 and then I took her out before I went to my class at 130 but she wouldnt go... She didnt need to cuz she almost always go when I take her out.. Anyway, my class was over at 3 and I was home by 315. I took her out right away and she didnt go so I went to check her crate.....and she had pottied in it She never potties in it at night time and then, I only take her out every 3.5 hrs... Is this a bad sign... will she always think its ok to go in her crate now or do you think she just had to go really really bad. If she thinks its ok to go in her crate I am screwed

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | No, I'm sure it was just an accident. She just have had to really go. How old is she? Young ones can't hold their bladders long and accidents tend to happen |

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | Is her crate to big? If she can potty in one end and lay at the other end it's to big. I had a Lhasa Poo who did this for awhile, every time I got home she got a bath if she'd pottied in her kennel. One day she didn't and I didn't give her a bath, I guess she put two and two together because it didn't happen again. She wasn't a fan of baths and I always felt she needed one after spending who knows how long in a kennel where she had pottied.

| I am by no means a potty expert. I can only tell you the experience I had with mine. When I stuck my pup in the crate, for the first two days there were both kinds in her crate AND she walked around/sat in it. You can imagine my horror. She never did it after that, though. I found the well-known advice to be quite true: pups do not like to sit in their own mess. Who would, though, right? You just have to make sure the crate fits her comfortably. I've been told when crate training she needs only enough room to go in, turn around and lie comfortably. If you give her much more room than that, then she will go potty in one corner and hang out in another so she doesn't have to touch the mess. If she has too much room, she'll never learn. Of course, now if I have to leave to go somewhere, I give her a bigger crate with plenty of room and water since I trust her. I'm not sure if this is what others would approve of, but I just like giving her more room and haven't had any problems with her going to the bathroom in her bigger crate. If she did, though, we would immediately go back to the "her size" crate. I would think one accident isn't a big deal, but if it continues then you should be concerned. I hope I was at least a little helpful! Hopefully someone else can give a more professional, years-of-experience-with-tons-of-pups opinion. Oh, while I was typing this thing members who I'm sure know a lot better than I do replied. |

| I would think the little munchikin just had an accident. I wouldn't start worrying unless it happened a few days in a row. |

| She is 10 weeks old.. Just a baby so maybe I am overreacting. I think I just have it in my head that since she went in her crate (the one place they say they WONT go in....) she will be one of those dogs who never gets housebroken... I really really really really hope this isnt true. Has anyone's puppy ever done this and then turned out to be 100% potty trained???

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I wouldn't get too upset! I think it was just an accident and she is only 10 weeks old. I bet she'll be fine...it's hard when they're young, their stomach can only hold so much and not for very long....good luck! Is that the only time you're away from her?

| It was a little accident . She is just a baby .I really don't think it will impede the potty training .

I recommend an xpen with the bed, a wee wee pad, food and water, a few toys maybe a chew. This is a baby, it should not be left locked in a crate while you are gone like that. I don't crate them at night either at so young an age, they are in an expen often sleeping with their mom at night. I guess your breeder you bought from didn't tell you anything, not your fault. But I will caution if you are looking for a Yorkie, buy from someone who does educate you. Yorkies may or may not be difficult to housebreak. It takes a lot of patience and sometimes up to a year of age. Each dog is different. Doing this with a 10 week old yorkie pup is like taking diapers off a six month old child expecting it to wait until you get home. | |
