And yes people do pay thousands for pure breeds. That is because they are paying probably for breeding and showing purposes. Most papered/purebreds are champions for that kind of money. I am sorry that you have missed my point. You are entitled to say what you want as am I. But the whole point of the post was that breeders were cashing in on these mixed breeds because it has become trendy. I didn't say they weren't being treated and/or loved any more or less. Since I started this post, I am now finishing it.

I agree with this.. I didn't even know that this was a designer breed..i just thought it was a cute name porkie and i didn't pay anywhere near 1000 dollars.. i only payed 300 and totally worth it.. if someone were to steal my Oreo and ask for $5000 i'd gladly pay it because NO one can replace my oreo.. he's priceless I don't think that it really matters what breed, what price as long as they are in good homes and are happy.. | |

| if people don't like purposely mixing breeds.. isn't it funny that these so called purebred dogs are actually inbred mixed breeds? I call purebred dogs inbred mixed breeds cause that is exactly what they are. You just take different breeds mix them, inbreed for a few generations and there you have a purebred. Have you read this: http://www.netpets.com/dogs/referen.../bragg.html#toc |

| I totally understand you! I got my "designer dog" at PetsMart one Saturday when I saw him all lonely and scared in the very back in a pen from the Humane Society and let me tell you that is the BEST dog I've ever had. And he only cost me $40. And if I had to, I would have paid more. But yeah. I work in a grooming shop/boutique and we have people come in with their new "designer dogs" such as the just now popular golden-doodle that they paid hundreds for. I don't get it. lol Of course I'm sure Rescue people look at us the same way. Why pay so much money for these purebreds and keep people breeding when we can rescue some poor soul's life? It kinda goes both ways. Either way, in my heart, I love my yorkie and my "mutt" just the same. I wouldn't trade one for the other

| It does make me mad that they breed 2 breeds and call them hybrid. They think they can give them a fun sounding fancy name and call them hybrids to rip people off. That ticks me off! That what I am against. Its not right to give something a lot of hype to fool people into paying more.

| What does that mean they are "not a pure dog"? Yorkies are mixed breeds just as all of the most popular breeds right now are. I find it just plain "wrong" to somehow place a greater value on a dog who can be in a show ring than one who is born to parents who are different from each other. I also learned and use the term "all american" to describe these beautiful babies and for me, I do not discriminate, as all dogs have value and are priceless for the love they give. Also there are plenty of vets who will stand by the fact that all americans do have fewer health problems than purebreds. Precious is Priceless!!!! |

| Well this topic has been touched enough but I'm just going to say I have a "Designer Dog" and a purebreed and I look at them the same... They are priceless it's easier said than do to go to the pound and find the MUTT you are looking for especially if oyu want a puppy!! I looked on petfinder first and there were NONE even close and if there were they were 6 yrs or older... So I think ALL dogs are precious no matter what breed they are... You find me a MUTT as cute as mine and with such a personality at the shelter and I will rush there to go get them!!! |

| in my opionion, everyone thinks their dog is worth what they pay for it. whether it be a yorkie or a labra-she-chi-malti-poo. we all value our animals no matter what and different people like different things. as long as you have a reputable breeder , i dont see what difference it would make as long as your paying for a healthy speciman of what you desire. |

| "hybrid" ... ever heard of "hybrid vigor"? when yorkies were first established from welsh, scottish, paisley and all the other terriers that came to produce our beloved babies, did you ever think that it would be a controversy like it is today? nope, not back then. i say to each their own and my hat is off to any one trying to produce a new breed to the best of their ability. i do not however promote those trying to sell these animals just because of the name "designer dogs" dont get me started on this because my best friend for 20 yrs is trying to establish a new "hybrid" breed. done with the upmost care and research. |
