| Potty training - different yorkies, different time? This is my first time and happy to meet so many yorkie lovers in YT I have 4 yorkies.. oldest is 2 yrs(boy) second 1 yr 1/2(girl) third 10 month(boy) last 6 month(boy) For some reason, everyone's potty trained(wee wee pad) except my oldest poor "Crusty"!!! my girl "Cheeky" almost trained herself and I din't have to teach her anything third boy "Chewy" took about a month to train. last boy "Csi Csu" took about couple of days to train. However, I've been training Crusty for almost 2yrs and he has yet to be potty trained 100% He still has accidents at least once a week... Since he's our biggest boy(@8lb) he makes BIG puddle in middle of the room and pee paws everywhere!!! Thanks to him I clean the floor religiously. I just can't understand why and wonder how long it will take Crusty to be fully potty trained. I even sing "happy pee" song and praise him a lotwhenever he goes on the pad. Does anyone know any good potty training tip?-much appreciated

| I totally understand where you are coming from!!! Potty training can be such a challenge! It sounds to me like you are doing ok, just being consistent has been the key here at home!!! My Tayah has the same issues. She is almost 2 and she will do great for a while and then oooops!!

| If you get a "magic" tip please let me know because my 2nd rescue is incorrigible when it comes to potty training! She just constantly goes on the rug. When I'm home shes pretty good but if I leave the house she knocks down the baby gate & goes all over the rug!!! UGH she drives me nuts but I love her anyway! MOMMY TO PRECIOUS & PRINCESS |

| Welcome to YT! I got to tell ya, you gave me a laugh with the "Happy Pee" song! I sing that same song every morning with our Grand Daughter Some furbabies just take longer, and some never do get to 100% Have you tried giving him a little treat? My sister tried that and got Jasmine at 100% Best of luck to you, and again welcome!

| First, I'm totally with "Monarchmom" My Crusty does that, too!!! He's very good when I'm around, but once I'm away he has his "PEE & POO Party" all over the floor! the horror... Yes, I gave him treats every time he went on the pad... and that how he became pudgy baby... sometime he saves his pee and go on the pad little at a time, so he can get more treats! Whenever he has accidents, he knows that he's done wrong and he goes time out(going his home and stay there 10min) in his own. It almost makes me think he just can't control it.

| None of my dog is clean around carpet!!? Mika use to jump/climb the gate, run to the bedroom and pee!!! 3 gates later I have found one that can resist her. Carpet isn't an option in my house. I thing they confused it with the pee pad? And if you male is use as a stud like mines are, Belly band will be a must at time... |

| Both? anyhow somebody prefers to use the giant, expensive pee pad in my living room. I know they are not confusing it with a pee pad because they are outdoor trained to potty. It seems fine for a while and then when the humidity gets high I get a whif of pee. All day Friday I spent cleaning the rugs in the living room and dining room. Somebody likes to pee under the dining room table also. They have peed on my rugs so often they I have put plastic under both rugs so it does ruin the hardwood floors. Why do they pick the only rooms in the house with rugs? By the way, they are 3 and 4 years old-not puppies.

| Potty Training I disagree with the fact that some people are satisfied with there dogs going potty in there homes as long as they're on a pad. how is this teaching the dog anything? all it is doing is telling the dog it is okay to go in the house! therefore he will go wherever he sees fit in the house. my method that i am practicing with my 10 week old boy is taking him out every two - to three hours and praising him whenever he goes. during the night he still needs a wee wee pad in his crate, because a small pup just cant hold it that long, but as soon as i wake him up and take him out the first thing we do is go outside for potty. this method works well for me seeing as how the dog is still just a newborn and has had only about 1 accident on the floor since we started the training at about 8 weeks of age. he also has learned sit and paw!! these dogs are not stupid, as long as you take the time to train them they can learn nomatter how old they are!! |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | If you aren't already using an enzyme cleaner I suggest you get one. These special cleaners contain bacteria that eat the protein found in urine, if any of this protein is left after cleaning a dog can smell it and feels "compelled" to return to the spot, that's one of the reasons pee pads work, they have some of the protein built into their pads. Another suggestion is to make a pee diary and write down any accidents he has. Put any relevant information, such as was their a clean pad available, some dogs are fussy and don't like a messy pad. In time you might be able to see a correlation between his accidents, and something else going on. Sounds like the older ones helped trained the newbies! Welcome to Yorkietalk!

I have never been able to catch them (or even know which one) is doing it. As soon as I find it I blot it up-clean it with the vinegar solution/baking soda/peroxide suggested on this forum. Once that all dries I clean it again with Odoban but I still think I smell it. As for the pee pads-these are little dogs and some people on here work and are gone during the day. They have no way to let these little ones out and they have small bladders-soooooo pee pads are their best bet. Everyone one has their way to solve problems and who is to say what is right or wrong for that person. myself
