I thought I wanted a female, but Maximo's baby picture said, "I'm the one." Now I'm hooked on boys.

| This is exactly why I have girl dogs. After living with my husband and two sons for the past 20 years I thought we needed some fu fu. I have already requested granddaughters. |

| I have wanted a Yorkie for so long. Finally talked hubby into it, I really wanted a girl. Had a list of girl names. but the breeder I called only had 2 boys As soon as I saw him I wanted him. He was so full of "spunk" I just grabbed him up & said o.k. I'm taking this one, told hubby to pay the lady & lets go. (he was 12 weeks old) I was so scared hubby would change his mind again. I love this little guy more than anything.(& hubby finally admitted he does to) |

| Actually i was seeking a boy at first, figuring opposites attract, then i saw the pic of Paris and decided i didnt care what the sex was. I would love either to death. Just so happens i ended up with my little diva and i could not be happier with her.

At the same time, his first owner bought him all these clothes and dressed him up all the time, while ignoring basic stuff like walks and potty training. So I told myself when I got him that I was going to respect his "nature", as a dog and I guess as a male. I guess also, he gets so much attention on the street already, the thought of people exclaiming over the cute little girl, then seeing his junk, and then me explaining over and over again that it's a Statement on Gender Roles... yeah, that sounds like too much work.

| I don't agree about girls being more independent. We have a 5 year old mini schnauzer and she is like our shadow. Always with one of us, preferably on a lap. Our new Yorkie baby is a girl, but really that gender decision was based on her being a gift for my 13 year old daughter. I thought my daughter would want to do bows and dress her up, etc. and might be disappointed with a boy. She's only 16 weeks old but a total love bug. Spunky and active but very snuggly. The poster who said health and personality are what matter and a good beginning makes a good puppy was spot on imo. It's less about gender. |

Gender traits vary from breed to breed, and of course not every dog will fit descriptions perfectly. There are always exceptions to the rules. I should call them tendencies, rather than rules. Thus, I believe that gender is a fairly important consideration when choosing a dog. Some people might be happier with one over the other. My dog's breeder adores her females, but she readily admits having a greater affinity for her boys.

| I knew i was getting 1st. pick of the litter than Ella was born out of. They all looked so similar when i first picked her out. She was the biggest one in the group of 2 girls and 2 boys. I thought picking the bigger one would mean she'd be bigger when she got older. Not at all what happened. She's 6.5 lbs. and perfect to me. I wanted a girl b/c i hate the fact that boys raise their legs to pee (kind of a silly reason), this is before i knew about belly bands. I also wanted to be able to dress her in cute outfits and bows. I am torn right now between getting another girl or a boy. I bet Ella would like a little sister though. We'll have to see. =]

| I really wanted a girl, but the litter was 2 boys. I was so disappointed at first. My son (who is 24) asked me, why don't you want a boy? I had to ask myself the same question. I researched boys and what I needed to do for them and went to see the puppies. Loved them! I have chosen my boy and get him in about 4 weeks. Done deal!!

| I wanted a girl--because I didn't want boy parts dangling all over...silly me! And, I just fell in love with her eyes--she is so gentle and caring. |

| Always wanted a little girl - a girly girl. I took one look at Armani and it was puppy love at first sight!

| Always had boy dogs in the past and they are more loving to female owners. Female dogs that I have encountered with seemed to be more independant and yappier. I think its more to personality of the dog but male dogs seemed to work out so far.
