| There have been a bunch of web sites started as well as money donated to help reunite that boy and his dog. They are trying mightily to locate his pet, Snowball.

| It's very sad and if I were in their shoes, I don't know if I could leave behind my babies. On a positive note: I live in AL, about 5 hours from all the disaster. I told a lot animal shelters and vet clinics have been taking in the animals that are rescued from areas distroyed by the huricanne. Birmingham Humane society took in a couple hundred. Maxwell Base in Montgomery took in about 100 animal. I'm sure there are many more places are doing the same. Hopefully some of those animals will be reunited with their owners. |

| There is no way i would leave with out my dogs. They could put us in a tent . a pet is something that will comfort you. Its bad enough to lose your home but your pet.

And our local Humane Society is also taking donations of pet food, collars, leashes, carriers, etc. to help with the rescues.

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | it is awful!! and just so sad. i guess it could be because of allergies, they don't want people getting mroe sick or something, or maybe they just don't want the babies to take up room. its awful, and such a sad hard thing to sit there and watch!

| dogs I have cried a river of tears for these poor animals. I saw a man living in his car with his TEN dogs. Things are changing here in Florida. You can pre-register at certain shelters if you have pets. If there is a hurricane you are on the pet friendly shelter list and can go there. We have decided to get an RV and I will keep my number down so if needed we can pack up and leave... I know it seems heartless to turn dogs away, but can you imagine the Super Dome full of dogs also? It was a nightmare as it was..unfortunately, not all pet owners are good ones..although I would perfer to live with strange dogs as oppose to strange people. |

| I feel so sorry for these people.. They already lost so much, why make them go through the pain of losing a pet as well

| left behind I was watching a newscast over the weekend and right next to one of the shelters in Texas they had set up an animal shelter. They already had three hundred pet taxis(crates ) lined up and stacked two deep so I think they are doing the best they can. But I would not leave my babies either. Every time we have a tornado warning I look around and get an idea of where my babies are in case I have to go to the basement. |

I would not have to leave my pets behind in an emergency such as this because they are more than pets...they are service dogs and, as such, they have the same "Access rights" AS HUMANS. I would urge anyone with a disability to train your dog(s) to assist you because it may not nly assist you but it may save their life someday and that is reason enough for me.

| pets I can see only one reason to keep pets out of shelters and that is the biting issue. Both here and in MD, young men walk pit bulls in the neighborhoods. Some can barely handle them. These are powerful dogs, who can be killers..maybe the counties/shelters are afraid of law suits. Quite frankly, it would not bother me to be in a shelter with dogs...no dog has ever given me a disease and if they have a rabies cert. people would be safe. I would not care if I got a fleas on me., poop on my shoes or no sleep from barking.. just so people could keep their pets with them..but I would be afraid of uncontained dangerous breeds. My brother has a GSD who is dangerous and needs to be put down..he will attack if not kept confined away from children and strangers. I have no doubt this dog could kill a person. |

| I guess it's hard to find shelters for the people, much less pets, and providing food for them is also a challenge. I sure wouldn't want to have to make that choice!
