And our local Humane Society is also taking donations of pet food, collars, leashes, carriers, etc. to help with the rescues.
But what they are saying is that they want these people to abandon their pets. I'm saying that they could take them out together and have shelters set up outside NO where the animals could go and be labeled with their owners names and locations as well as the pets name. If these people had the cash, they could get a place to live outside NO with their pets. I would die before I would leave my babies. I understand the bond between them. These people working the disaster apparently do not understand this bond. There was a photo of a policeman with a chihuahua on the front page of the Kansas City Star today and he said he was going to give it to his mother. Think of all of the little doggies inside those homes that didn't make it, but drowned. It makes me so sad. I'm disappointed in our government with their approach to this situation and advising people to abandon pets when there are other alternatives. They need to open their minds and not close them. OK. I'll get off the bandwagon now.
