| How many hours do you play/excercize your yorkie? My yorkie is now 5 months. I am home all day with him, so he gets lots of cuddling and attention. I play with him and take him for long walks, but he seems to have an insatiable need for more and more. He will seem sad when I leave for the gym, and I feel guilty. So I am wondering, what is the recommended amount of time a yorkie should get every day for play and excercize? |

| In the mornings I take Twinkle to a field near us and throw the ball for her for about 45mins (depending on the weather) she LOVES it, and then a 30min walk on the leash in the evening. During the day, if she wants to play, she'll bring me her ball and I'll have a break from work (any excuse!) and play for half hour or so. xx xxxx

| Prince and I play for about a 40 minutes or less each day,( depending on how he is feeling). He can only have moderate play since he has a collapsed trachea. The rest of the day is filled wih hugs, belly rubs, and kisses.

| Snickers gets a 10 min walk in the morning and in the afternoon, a 25-35 min walk in the evening as well and about a 15 min fetch session once or twice a day. Oh, and then we all chase each other around the house all the time

| Your puppy is still young and full of energy. He will require more attention and excercise than an adult dog. Possibly for the first year he will wear you out and never seem to be tired. LOL I sit on the floor for 1/2 hr in the am and 1/2 hrs in the pm and play with Buddy. He get's 4 15-25mins walks per day and play inbetween. If I'm watching TV he will bring a toy and I will throw it down the hall from the recliner If I'm making the bed he's there with a toy trying to get my undivided attention so again I will grab the toy and throw it. If I'm doing my hair there he is sitting on top the the toilet seat with a toy in his mouth wanting me to pay attention to him. Again I will take the toy and throw it down the hall. He's five and still is very playfull. I think they never get enough attention no matter how much you give them. But that's a Yorkie for you. They really do settle down as they get older but always want and need the attention. |

| We play fetch and sock pull, about 1-2 hours a day. Then if it is nice out, we go out for a 1-2 mile walk. |

| Thanks everyone for your replies! I guess he's getting the average. Sometimes he'll walk with me a good three miles, and other days he refuses to walk. So strange. He just stands there and looks at me like I'm nuts and turns around to go back inside. |

| Depending on weather, we try to got out for a total of 1 1/2 mile walk a day (2 walks) and then the other times to got potty. I am at home and whenever they come up to me to play, I will play with them for awhile. I also will just take about 10-15 every so often and get them riled up running all over the house-just to get them moving. lol. Then at night, sometimes, we will have a training/trick session which usually lasts for about an hour with the 2 of them taking turns.

| For a 5 month old, you can't exercise/walk him for too long at a time or so I was told by my vet when mine was a pup. Multiple walk/play sessions are okay but just not too long at a time, they need the rest in between as they are still a pup. In general, I walk mine about an hour a day since weather has been nice-mine is going to be 3 years old soon. We play maybe anywhere from 30mins-1 hour collectively all day. Usually, after the walk he really doesn't want to play until he has enough rest and nap in the afternoon. I only have 1 Yorkie so it is nice to see him meet other small dogs outside and get some mental and physical simulation at the same time.

| We take a walk every morning during the week for about 30 minutes. Weekend morning walks are longer. During the day we go out for 20 minute walks 3-4 times (he is at the office with me). Play time is usually in the morning at home for about an hour while we are getting ourselves together to get out the door, at the office he pretty much keeps himself occupied by his toys, sleeping, or watching people |
