Tell the truth: Who got their dog from a pet store?

The 2 dogs we got when I was a child were, but not any I have ever picked out as an adult are. The 2 from my childhood was a chihuahua and a malamute. The malamute had siezures throughout his life. The chihuahua had a soft spot in his head that never closed up and an undescended testicle. I can't say I would regret having those dogs when I was a child but I wouldn't use a petstore by choice ever.

To Chandra - IDK what happens to all of the puppies in pet stores that get to old to sell, but I do know that many of them are sold at breeders auctions.

forgive me for my "stupidity" for lack of a better word but what are breeders auctions? i'm so new to all this. thanks!

I feel bad now... I got Sapphire from a pet store... And I even knew about puppymills before we got her... I was just soo happy to actually get a dog I guess I didn't care where we got her from... I wouldn't trade her for anything in the world though!! She's perfect in every way.

You're not stupid at all, I think most people are not aware breeder's auctions exist. It is a dog auction where breeders buy new breeding stock and sell off the breeding dogs they no longer want for various reasons. They will also sell at these auctions puppies that are called broker rejects, which will include the older pet store puppies.

No, they are not good breeders that either buy or sell at these auctions. They really are the worst breeders imaginable!

No... I did know about puppymills... That's what makes me feel bad...

Both Peppee and Zoe were from breeders. I never understood the whole financing of puppies.

oooooooooooooooh I don't like the sound of these breeders. I couldn't imagine being a breeder and just "selling off" a dog just "becuase" i didn't want it for some reason. thank you very much for all your informaion! it's very sad the whole puppy mill thing! i wish there were more we could all do!

Rae, our dog that we adopted from another owner got her from a pet store. You can tell she came from one. She is really tiny, and has some skin issues, and she doesn't have very much energy, she rarely plays. BUT we love her very much and we are soooo glad we have her around now. She fits in great!

Interesting thread...I have not purchased a puppy from a pet store...so I have no first hand experience to offer...

My Lucky is from a pet store. Didn't know about puppymills then, didn't intend to buy that day. But there he was, ....I instantly fell in love & was hooked. He is 4 years old.

But he still has the toy that we got when we got him and he played with it in the store and when we brought him home he won't play with it for about 3 weeks and now he is playing with which he does whenever he can find it. Just thought it was funny, how he didn't want anything to do with when we got home with him and now he plays with it, he is about to be 2 next month!! But the Petland where we got him is now shut down, which is a good thing. No one wanted him because of his coloring so they were saleing him at "discount" but as soon as I walked in the store , I walked passed all the other yorkies and saw him, I knew that he was the one for me. I love him more then anything and would not trade him for the world.
