Tell the truth: Who got their dog from a pet store? And did you know about puppy mills when getting your dog. Tell your experience |
|
Missy isn't from a petstore, but my pug dog Tang is. I didn't know about puppymills at the time. I wrote a post about my experience with her HERE |

Hot Rod is from store, Maggie was from a breeder. Had not idea about puppy mills as we had 2 cats for 13 years and had gotten them from friends. |

wantayorkie23, are you asking because you are considering buying from a pet store? Just wondering because of your handle. I adopted Thor from someone else who originally bought him from a pet store. I knew not to buy from a pet store, but did not know about puppy mills until I signed up here. Now that I know, I will NEVER buy a cat or dog from a pet store, or buy anything from a store that sells them. |

Never denied the fact my dog came from a pet store and never will. No I didn't even know what a puppy-mill BYB or anything of it. I would never buy from a pet-store or a breeder who i throughly did not check out. I love my baby and have never regretted him, ever. |

Don't know if you're asking because you're considering a pet store, but if you are, please don't be tempted to buy from a pet store. :) I've see so many CUTE puppies in pet stores and of course they are very tempting. You want to save them from that little box. But trust me it is so much better when you find a nice breeder and get to go to the home, watch the puppy interact with it's parents and siblings, take your pick of puppy, etc. Plus the little boy I saw in a local pet store was $2500. My female from the breeder is $1500. |

Shelby is a rescue from the Army Vet clinic here on post. The only place to get a dog here is at Vet clinics. They have their own contacts with breeders. But the dogs are always checked before they leave and they have almost all of their shots before they are allowed to leave. (you have to pay for the last 2 of the 5 that is required here as well as the microchip) |

I got Tobie from Petland but I had not idea what a puppy mill was and I have been trying my hardest to find the breeder that is on his papers. It makes me sick knowing where he came from and where is mom and dad are living. I am ashamed to admit it but I honesty had no idea about puppy mills. I am lucky because he is heathy and happy. But I will never ever again get a dog from a petstore and I will research as much as I can about the breeder. Now I know what questons to ask and what to look for. |

I got Bailey from a breeder. I didn't know about pet stores and puppy mills either but I have a question. What happens to all thoe poor babies in the pet stores that don't get to have good homes? I'm not saying I agree with pet stores selling animals because I don't, infact I won't even walk into a pet store that sells puppies. I just wonders what happens to all the babies that get left there??? |

None of my dogs have ever been from a pet store, except my mom's cockapoo, Carmen, who is almost 4 years old. I love her to death but she is so weird! LOL. She's got so many weird habits and fears and stuff. She refuses to have her picture taken.... anything remotely similar looking to a camera (even if it's not) she will RUN into another room. She randomly scratches at doors even if there's nothing in there. She chases cars. Granted, some of this stuff could have probably been prevented by proper training which my parents never did. I'm considering trying to teach/help train her better along with me training Jackson. But, I don't know, she's just a very weird dog and I dunno if it has to do w/ the face that shes from a puppy mill or not. |

I bought 2 dogs from a petstore, the first one back in 1977 and the 2nd one in 1998, and then I learned about pet stores, and now won't even go in one that sells dogs |

Ruby was from a commercial kennel or puppy mill and I had no idea at the time. Reno, my second yorkie came from reputable exhibitor/breeder as will any future yorkies, unless they are a rescue. To Chandra - IDK what happens to all of the puppies in pet stores that get to old to sell, but I do know that many of them are sold at breeders auctions. |

non of mine are from pet stores. They are all from great breeders. I have to admit i might be the only one that did not know there were pet stores or puppy mills until I joined YT. I had dogs growing up but My parents got them from a breeder. So i always thought people get their dogs from breeders and that's the only way.:D yes..hate to admit but i was clueless about things..lol |
