| Don't know how to deal with Maddy :( She is so rotten when we aren't home. She destroys the bathroom we leave her in... pees and poops then rolls about in in (not to mention smears it all over the walls). I don't know what to do... I am debating giving her free roam... Suggestions??? |

If anything, you might want to lay out more wee-wee pads. Try leaving 2 wee-wee pads by the doorway and then another wee-wee bad in the middle of the bathroom. That might help somewhat. Just note that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Good luck!

| Free roam would be the WORST thing you could do if a dog is acting out like that. Have you tried a crate? Maybe she wouldn't go poop in that?

| We have tried a crate. She pees and poops in that too. I think she gets anxious when we leave. I put her toys and treats and a blanket in there, and she just goes mad all day. She is great on the pee pads when we are home. She knows she is supposed to go on them. I think it upsets her when we leave. I HAVE to leave her, but I can't come home to this every single day. |

| Have you tried walking out the door, leaving the house for a short time (1-3 minutes) and then coming right back? And keep repeating the process so she learns that you WILL be coming back. It sounds like separation anxiety to me. Does she know yet the sound of your keys, etc? Some dogs get very upset and anxious when they hear the keys or you pick up your purse because they know it means you're leaving. Try taking the keys, and just walking around the house with them and sitting down somewhere else, to let her know it doesn't necessarily mean you're leaving. Do you leave a radio or TV on her for her? Maybe the sound would comfort her. I've seen on "It's Me or the Dog" where they actually set up a camera and sat and watched it outside of their house and they had one walkie talkie and there was another in the house. So as they were watching the dog on the screen, if she started doing bad things, they would talk into the walkie talkie and say "NO" and the dog was like whaaat? How can they see that?! Obviously, you can't sit at a tv monitor all day to watch her but maybe try it a few times a week? I know it sounds drastic.

| I agree with the above post, I think that will help with the separation anxiety. Also have you tried leaving out treats for her when you leave? You can leave out the everlasting treat ball or the kong puppy treats. Here are some links below as reference to what these items are - Kong - Puppy KONG Dog Toys at PETCO Kong treat - KONG Stuff'N Liver Snacks Anytime Treats for Dogs at PETCO Kong peanut paste - Liver Paste: Kong Stuff'N Star Mark Everlasting Treat Ball for Dogs at PETCO For the Kong you just stick the treat halfway in the opening on the bottom and then add some peanut paste to it. This will distract them for bit and keep them busy when the leave the house. Hope this helps.

"While chewing on the toy, a vacuum was created and it effectively sucked his tongue into the hole in the ball. From speaking with my vet, this likely occurred because there is not a second hole in the ball preventing the vacuum effect from happening. I became aware of this when Chai approached a friend at my home whimpering with the ball in his mouth" The Kong has a larger hole on the bottom to put the treat in and and a smaller hole on top. Therefore, the 'vacuum effect' is not likely to occur with this toy. As for the everlasting treat ball, there's a very large hole in which you put the treat in (it fits in like a cap) and I don't believe the 'vacuum effect' will occur with this toy either. In any case, before I bought these two toys, I've done some thorough search through YT forum to see if there were any issues with these two toys and haven't found any. The only thing I would suggest before giving your furbabies the treat that goes with toys, is to give them a little first to see how their stomach will react to it. Last but not the least, make sure you buy the correct size toy for your furbaby.

| I would not give her free roam yet, but with you being close around her I would. The more she learns to behave correctly in her environment, the sooner you can leave her out with more freedom. I give my little girl free roam of the house. My 13 week old gets the xpen when we have to go away from him. He does very well in it and hopefully by the time he is 24-months, he will also be free roaming. He is almost completely pad trained. I just make sure first thing in the am. I get him to his pad. Then, later when I see his sniffing around, I put him back on it and encourage him to go. It does take a lot of time, but don't get discouraged. I am sure she is worth it! Best of luck, keep us posted as to how she is doing! |
