I feel your pain about getting into things! Wrigley's favorite is receipts. He grab those up like they are going outta style. He clamps his jaws down on those suckers too.

When he finds one that we have accidentally dropped (or set too close to the edge of a table or something) we just turn him on his back... and grab his toothbrush

He opens his mouth so fast-- it is funny

He hates his teeth being brushed (though thankfully he at least lets us do it now without too much of a fight)

Just try to keep things out of reach. It is easy to forget that anything within their reach is fair game to them.

Better not have children because they also eat things like papers and receipts that fall on the floor. Yorkies are very intelligent and voice alone suffices for punishment such as taking away the paper and a firm, stern no. Not yelling either as Yorkies are easily hurt by words and deeds. Puppy proof your home so this does not happen. Good luck, Sue

Mine did the same thing when she was a baby. So i boobie trapped her. She always used to tear up receipts, papers, magazines, tp, whathave you. So what I did was spray a receipt with bitter apple and then "accidentally" drop it. She would of course grab it right up for another paper shredding game and then quickly drop it once she got the taste in her mouth. I did this a few times with a couple different things she liked to chew on. well after a few boobie trapped items she stopped chewing up paper. LOL

Do not feel bad. It is a puppy stage and she will grow out of it if you teach her "NO! DROP IT!"

Lucy has always loved paper, rather it be paper towels or toilet paper. She is almost 5 years old & still, every now & then, will grab the toilet paper & run down the hall with it trailing behind her. All we can do is chase her, laughing to no end, she is SO funny & I wished I had the camera the last time. It would have made a great video!! Have fun with your little girl

We are a loving family, and intend to give Chloe all the love she wants!

Also, you use the word "strike", which sounds very harsh. He never "strikes" Chloe, but gives her a soft spank. And I do not believe that everybody knows that dogs shouldn't be spanked - but people do learn! That is what this forum is for... learning!

You said in your first post that your fiancee gets angry about your puppy ripping up paper and then he spanks her.

I support the 'replace the fiance' comment. If he sees nothing wrong in spanking a little puppy, what do you think he'd do when your future children mis-behave?! Maybe we are all over-reacting here, but, it's a slippery slope. Bottom line, no spanking! Hope your fiance will practice some patient with your baby and wait the puppy stage out without further spanking!

I'd say its a terrier thing! My staff is 5 and she still rips things up from time to time and of course Mika who is 1 (today

) still does it too at every given opportunity! My fella comes from an old fashioned family where its OK to spank dogs and even children to "teach" them how to behave. I laid down the ground rules very early on in our relationship (before we had kids or dogs) that it was my job to discipline and spanking was out of the question, he respects me and was even a little relieved that it was out of his "hands"! And besides like others have said if this keeps occurring it really is'nt her fault, she is an animal and this kind of behaviour comes naturally to her, we have learned in our house to keep such things out of reach and if we find such a mess then its me I get angry with for allowing it to happen, never the dogs!

Hello, I have TWO Yorkie Terrors, and they get into everythng, I can't even read the mail or newspaper without one of them trying to get it. They are both 15wks. So I just say NO, LEave it,
Drop it, or you can't have this.. When we eat it's NO you can't have any...They are really funny and I hate to see them getting older. :-( and bigger PIXI is 3# and SPIKE is 4# so I have 7 pounds of loving and licking me in the face. Try to remember the fun times your having and not make her mistakes something serious. Treasure this time because before long they will be out of the puppy stage and that the best time to me....

My hubby used to be like that too, trying to spank my pup not hard but a little spank but he has never had a dog before and he didn't know what he got into by agreeing to have a dog because I wanted one. I appreciate him for letting me have a dog and I had to explain again and again to him about what not to do such as spanking however small it is. It didn't really get into him until one day I flipped-big argument, I was so mad that I just warn him not to do it again and I don't even want to listen whether he agrees to it or not lol. It worked lol and it stopped. Now, he bonded with Pao so much and is so experienced with dogs and he won't even do the spanking thing anymore and will teach others why you shouldn't do it lol. He is soo cute.

Thanks for your concern, but I think I have it cased that my fiance is not abusive and he didn't spank her out of anger.

I would like to address everyone leaving their opinions about my fiance, that he has never had a pet before. This is his first pet. He is learning.

He grew up in a family that very much dislikes dogs, wants nothing to do with dogs, or any animal for that matter. He always loved my parents dogs, so we decided we would get one of our own after a little over a year of pondering. That being said, he absolutely loves Chloe, he would never hurt her or even consider hurting her.

I also want to say that he is not spanking the dog hard, not hard enough to hurt her at all. I still don't agree, but I just want to lay this out so that everyone can stop saying "imaging what he will do to your future children". You don't know my Matt, and If you did, I can guarantee you wouldn't be saying such things.

The things you are saying are rude and very unalled for. I didn't ask for relationship advice, or whether or not to leave my fiance! That is absolutely ridiculous. If I wanted this type of advice, I would have asked straight up (in the off topic section, of course!)

To the others who have given me suggestions, I can't thank you enough! It is nice to go through all the frustrating posts from others to find one that I can try myself or that doesnt upset me.

Also, to the kind lady to PM'ed me about this thread saying not to worry about some people's comments -- thank you!
