| I was more or less in the same situation. My hubby never had a pet before except for 2 feeder fish who died after very short time so I am not sure if you consider them as pets. His family didn't like pets either and so his whole family can't have any pets while growing up. I did have to teach my hubby every single small and big thing when we brought our puppy home-I still remember how I have to constantly preach on him every day for the first few months. It took me about 3 months to get him to totally warm up and feel comfortable with having a dog in the house. On top of that, I have to teach his whole family on how to treat a dog, training and behaviour and everything...it was hard but after 3 years, they are all pretty knowledgeable and is more pro dog than not (I hope). Other posters probably meant good. Because we can't see the expression on the internet, people get big reaction when they see the word 'spanking' . It is a good thing you clarified further but I think everyone has the best of intentions, just the wrong choice of words. I am sure your fiance will become a dog expert in no time under your guidance.

| I call Stewart the Tasmanian Devil! One day my 18 year old daughter was home asleep on the couch and had let Stewart out of his crate. Well . . . when I got home from work, there was toilet paper shredded from one end of my bedroom and bathroom, to the other!!! lol I don't mean big pieces . . . It looked like a paper shredder had gone through my bedroom! He had pulled the toilet paper from the bathroom! It happens!!! lol I just keep telling him no . . . Then he looks at you with toilet paper hanging out of his mouth and he's just so cute, it's hard to be mad!!!!

| Carmen I agree, replacing yous fiance would be absurd...Id never replace bailee or my kids (when I have them) for any lil mistake they made. Noone is perfect and spanking a dog is not a sign of an abuser...Most elderly ppl think it is still perfectly ok to pop em with a paper. I personally do not like it but coming from a family as she stated with no previous dog ownership he simply didnt know. If he kept doing it after being asked not to or maliciously, that would be another story...
