Senior Yorkie Talker | Molly's Story ......Not quite sure where to start......... My husband, Davie, who is an ACO, and I have been married for almost 5 years now. We've had the stray pup's that would come and go, we've been the pup-sitters that got too attatched to someone else's dog, and then I would cry when it was time to give it back. We've been through the heartaches of being very close to our dog's and then having to get rid of them, or 'their time' would come. My husband deals with animals all day, everyday, and although it's tempting to take them all home, we believe, that 'animals adopt You'. And we'd have to be patient until the right one came along. My husband called me from work on Feb.28th was it.....March 1st maybe...?...we'll say the beginning of last week. Anyhow, he started the conversation with, "Okay, we're going to try this again......" And I thought, 'uh-oh, what now?!' {The last little buddy he fell in love with was the most adorable, little black and white, and snotty, Pug..........the downside----well, he marked every single spot in our apartment.........that includes my cousin's (our roomate), Cocker Spaniel's face!! Not just once, but this little guy peed in Roxas' face three times.........poor guy. I'm happy to say he's in an awesome Pug Rescue Home now. He has so much potential.} So, you can see why I'd be a little nervous. haha. I love training dog's, and yes, that includes housebreaking, so when you adopt a rescue dog, you can usually expect to have to do alot of work with them. My husband assured me that She was the one, and then he told me she was a Yorkie.............We Yorkies! And then he told me she was blonde, like me. I was very excited, and a little nervous, to meet her that evening. She's 5 years old, and her birthday is Feb.25th. She had been at the shelter for about a week, before my husband spotted her. Her previous owners basically just didn't want her anymore. They had three different names for her, none of which she would respond to. Her poor nails were never trimmed, so they curved under and have grown in with her quick. Her beautiful and unique blonde hair was matted and tangled, coarse and broken........they got her nails trimmed down a little bit, but unfortunatley they are still going to be fairly long...just not as sharp now. And her poor damaged hair will have to be cut in order to grow back healthier.......And her name is Molly now and she knows it!!! She responded to 'Molly' by the third and fourth day we had her. I'm completely in Love. And now for her "special" traits...........so far......... She hates dog food! We want her to have the best of everything! So we started her with Royal Canin. She wouldn't eat until about 8pm, by that time she was starving. But I could tell she was forcing herself to eat it. I tried the peanut butter trick. I just mixed a teaspoon of melted peanut butter in the mornings, then in the evenings about a teaspoon of shredded cheese.....this worked for two days......that's it....And she began scratching and biting herself until she bled. [she's still doing this]. This didn't start until a few days after we adopted her. So I did some research on RC and assumed it was the dogfood. So yesterday I bought Eukanuba with a few pouches of Mixables.........thank goodness, because she hates that, too! So I mix a tablespoon of the Mixables in with it.....and although she picks the meat out of it, she has to be getting some of the Eukanuba with it. [Even though she leaves some behind] I just feel that the Eukanuba will help with her skin, hair, and breath....I just wish she liked it. So, it's day two with the new food, so we'll see how far it will go.......... Molly does not like treats.......how do you reward or train a dog, that hates treats?! lol. The only thing she'll eat, sometimes, is a Bil-Jac.....but not often. When we go to PetCo, I pick her up to the Cookie Buffet and she just looks away, or gives me a confused looked. Even if we drop food on the floor, she'll sniff it and walk away. haha. I want her to be a dog...you know what I mean...like, I want her to Love treats, or sneak a lick of something we dropped, just so I know she's eating something she likes. She loves french fries, but I can't give her more than a couple. She's not going to be a Fast Food eater! No Way! lol. But that's about it. And she dosen't beg for more. I know that she would love canned dog food, I just don't think it will be good for her.... Now, I doubt it, but it would be great if someone could relate to this...But Molly doesn't play....with anything! No balls, no chew toys.......squeaky noises only seem to get on her nerves.....When Roxas, the Cocker Spaniel, is playing fetch or tug of war with his Mommy[my cousin], Molly just stares and tilts her head in confusion....I wish I new what she was thinking. haha! Sweet baby.... I try rolling balls in front of her....she just dosen't get it. She loves going for walks though! She's leash trained and house-broken! [even though her previous owners said she was not]. They also said that she was left alone for 8-10 hours a day, in a kennel or taxi. She has seperation anxiety now, but it's getting much better! It's amazing how much she's improved in such little time. She's so smart. She still has social anxiety, not near as bad, but when too many people are around you can see her anxiety. I can't imagine how mistreated she must have been. Sometimes when I pick something up, she ducks like I'm going to throw it at her. I hate this...It hurts me. She now knows: Come, Stay, Outside, Potty, Bye-Bye, Wave.....She loves bathtime and being brushed. she loves her bows! But for some reason I have a hard time getting her to sit....she will sometimes for a Bil-Jac or to put her leash on or take it off, but most of the time I have to put my hand on her back-end before she will. If I hold the treat above her nose, to get her to sit on her own, she just walks away.....like she thinks I'm teasing her with it. And this just in, as of two days ago.........I think Molly thinks she's a cat... she only goes in the grass if she's needs to potty, and afterwards she scratches to 'bury' it....it's so strange, I've never seen a dog do this. That's all I can really think of right now..... I love her, and she has such a strong personality! She's very special. She's usually very friendly, but sometimes she's snobby...literally...if she's in a snobby mood, and someone is talking to her, or trying to pet her, she'll keep looking away, as though she's ignoring them. lol. or turn her back to them....It's not often at all, but yesterday someone in PetCo did say that she was a Snob....in her defense, I told them it was because she hated the rain.....lol. So, so far this has been Molly's story in my eye's....................

| is she spayed? Haha that is funny, because she is so much like my 2 1/2 year old yorkie, Gypsy. Gypsy (and her mother) were both VERY picky eaters until they were spayed. I had Gypsy spade in Jan and now she is a very good eater! She didn’t really like toys until we brought her little sister home (and Prissy is a TOY MANIAC) and then she had some interest in toys and chews/she didn’t want Prissy to enjoy them. Keep us posted! I am so glad that you and Molly found eachother. P.S. Gypsy won’t “sit” to save her life. And she think that she is a cat too J |

| She is exactly like how Brandi was when I first brought her home a few months ago. Like yours she was a rescue and she is 7 yrs old. She doesn't play with anything except me....meaning we play tag and hide and go seek but she doesn't play with toys or anything like that probably because she was used for breeding and was never really let out of her crate. Be patient with her. I have had Brandi now for about 6 months and I have noticed behavior changes in her more each day....all positive changes. We are still working on the potty training (more my fault than hers) but she is now more confident and not as jumpy. I think she is now beginning to feel that this not a dream and that she has a forever home with someone who loves her. Some things about her personality I have no choice but to except things like she may never play with toys (which is cool...I can spend the money on other things) but that she does like to play. Find out how she likes to play and play with her that way. As for feeding Molly, can't help you there because Brandi is like a freaking vaccumm cleaner she eat's anything and everything if I let her. Please give it some time.....you will see Molly's personality blossom as she becomes more confident that this is hopefully her forever home. |

| Congratulations on Molly adopting you and your hubby. You may have to try different foods until you find something she really likes. My little girl has always been persnickety about food. We have a puppy mill rescue and he has never cared to play with toys of any kind. So you have a fifty fifty chance with that. I'm sure she will surprise you both as time goes by. Happy for the three of you. |

Senior Yorkie Talker | Thank You for that reply! I definitely see changes everyday, as does everyone else. And it feels good to hear that, too. At first, when my husband would wake up in the mornings to get ready for work, she would get so scared. [like she thought he was going to take her back]. that so heartbreaking. But now, we can go visit the shelter and after a few minutes of holding her close, she'll want to get down and go visit everyone. And it especially feels good to hear from everyone at the shelter, how much better Molly looks. It's amazing what a little effort and a lot of love can do! We still have a little way to go to get that hair and skin healthier, and get her eating, but she's so content and happy! It's so rewarding.

Senior Yorkie Talker | no play? cute little story: two nights ago I gave her a quick bath, I was home by myself, and I Never have my video camera in my hand when I need it. lol. As soon as I had Molly all dry and brushed, and opened the door from the bathroom, she ran downstairs like speedracer. I had no idea what she was doing! I ran downstairs and she was jumping off the sofa's, around me in circles, back up the stairs and down again..........it kinda scared me....lmao. I had just never seen her so hyper. It didn't last long, but it was awesome to see her so lively. haha. My husband thinks I'm really exaggerating. lol. So we had to give her another bath last night because I'm trying this skin moisturizer for her w/ oatmeal, and sure enough, after i had her all dry and brushed and put her on the floor...............she just kept sitting there........bummer.........haha!

| My Lane sounds a lot like Molly. We rescued Lane just before Christmas last year. She was saved in a puppymill bust. It's funny you say Molly is just like a cat, because that is exactly how Lane behaved when we first got her. Now, she is almost like a completely different dog. I'm sure it helped her to have a well-adjusted dog to model herself after too. Her sister, Rory, has been spoiled since birth. I have a feeling a lot of her odd behaviors will subside over time! The first night with Lane I was so afraid she wasn't okay - she wouldn't even use the bathroom, anywhere - the carpet would have been a-okay with us at this point. Finally about 4:30 am, she was stirring and we got her up and she made the tiniest little nickel sized spot. She also wouldn't eat anything we offered her. The food they said she was eating at the shelter was untouched, and she didn't want the Evo Rory was eating. The first thing she was interested in was some cheese slices on a plate! Then she ate ice cream. Not the best, but it helped her build her strength. She also would only eat off of a plate and sometimes the floor. Hand feeing didn't interest her either, but I am sure she didn't trust us at that point. Now she gobbles things up right out of our hands. She now eats Evo dry food and Innova wet (out of a dog bowl!), so it might just be a matter of her getting comfortable with the food. Lane had NO idea what a toy was, and the squeaker scared her. Now she LOVES toys, plays tug with the rope toys, and she and Rory have fun chasing each other for the plush squeaker toys. The rescue told us that she may never play with Rory and certainly would not enjoy doggie daycare. She now attends daily with Rory and LOVES it. I really think the more time that passes the more positive changes you will see!

So funny that you mention the cheese and plate. When my husband brought her home, he told me she loved cheese. She wouldn't really eat the Science Diet at the shelter, [which is fine by me now, because I've heard nothing but bad things.], so my husband gave her a piece of his cheese when he went on lunch.....**awe, they had lunch together. yea, he's head over heels. lol.** Anyhow, sometimes with her dinner i'll add a little cheese to get her to eat it, she loves it. And she hates her bowl. We're going to buy her another one, when we find one we think, she'll think, is 'good enough'. lol. She'd rather eat out of our hand. Sometimes I just have to sit by her and feed her out of her bowl. My husband thinks it's because she feels like i'm rewarding her that way, or giving her something that I would eat....idk.
