Default Molly's Story

......Not quite sure where to start.........

My husband, Davie, who is an ACO, and I have been married for almost 5 years now. We've had the stray pup's that would come and go, we've been the pup-sitters that got too attatched to someone else's dog, and then I would cry when it was time to give it back.
We've been through the heartaches of being very close to our dog's and then having to get rid of them, or 'their time' would come. My husband deals with animals all day, everyday, and although it's tempting to take them all home, we believe, that 'animals adopt You'. And we'd have to be patient until the right one came along.

My husband called me from work on Feb.28th was it.....March 1st maybe...?...we'll say the beginning of last week.
Anyhow, he started the conversation with, "Okay, we're going to try this again......" And I thought, 'uh-oh, what now?!'

{The last little buddy he fell in love with was the most adorable, little black and white, and snotty, Pug..........the downside----well, he marked every single spot in our apartment.........that includes my cousin's (our roomate), Cocker Spaniel's face!! Not just once, but this little guy peed in Roxas' face three times.........poor guy. I'm happy to say he's in an awesome Pug Rescue Home now. He has so much potential.}

So, you can see why I'd be a little nervous. haha. I love training dog's, and yes, that includes housebreaking, so when you adopt a rescue dog, you can usually expect to have to do alot of work with them.
My husband assured me that She was the one, and then he told me she was a Yorkie.............We Yorkies! And then he told me she was blonde, like me.
I was very excited, and a little nervous, to meet her that evening.

She's 5 years old, and her birthday is Feb.25th.
She had been at the shelter for about a week, before my husband spotted her. Her previous owners basically just didn't want her anymore. They had three different names for her, none of which she would respond to. Her poor nails were never trimmed, so they curved under and have grown in with her quick. Her beautiful and unique blonde hair was matted and tangled, coarse and broken........they got her nails trimmed down a little bit, but unfortunatley they are still going to be fairly long...just not as sharp now. And her poor damaged hair will have to be cut in order to grow back healthier.......And her name is Molly now and she knows it!!!
She responded to 'Molly' by the third and fourth day we had her. I'm completely in Love.

And now for her "special" traits...........so far.........

She hates dog food! We want her to have the best of everything! So we started her with Royal Canin. She wouldn't eat until about 8pm, by that time she was starving. But I could tell she was forcing herself to eat it. I tried the peanut butter trick. I just mixed a teaspoon of melted peanut butter in the mornings, then in the evenings about a teaspoon of shredded cheese.....this worked for two days......that's it....And she began scratching and biting herself until she bled. [she's still doing this]. This didn't start until a few days after we adopted her. So I did some research on RC and assumed it was the dogfood. So yesterday I bought
Eukanuba with a few pouches of Mixables.........thank goodness, because she hates that, too! So I mix a tablespoon of the Mixables in with it.....and although she picks the meat out of it, she has to be getting some of the Eukanuba with it. [Even though she leaves some behind] I just feel that the Eukanuba will help with her skin, hair, and breath....I just wish she liked it. So, it's day two with the new food, so we'll see how far it will go..........

Molly does not like treats.......how do you reward or train a dog, that hates treats?! lol.
The only thing she'll eat, sometimes, is a Bil-Jac.....but not often.
When we go to PetCo, I pick her up to the Cookie Buffet and she just looks away, or gives me a confused looked. Even if we drop food on the floor, she'll sniff it and walk away. haha. I want her to be a dog...you know what I mean...like, I want her to Love treats, or sneak a lick of something we dropped, just so I know she's eating something she likes. She loves french fries, but I can't give her more than a couple. She's not going to be a Fast Food eater! No Way! lol. But that's about it. And she dosen't beg for more. I know that she would love canned dog food, I just don't think it will be good for her....

Now, I doubt it, but it would be great if someone could relate to this...But Molly doesn't play....with anything! No balls, no chew toys.......squeaky noises only seem to get on her nerves.....When Roxas, the Cocker Spaniel, is playing fetch or tug of war with his Mommy[my cousin], Molly just stares and tilts her head in confusion....I wish I new what she was thinking. haha! Sweet baby....
I try rolling balls in front of her....she just dosen't get it.
She loves going for walks though! She's leash trained and house-broken! [even though her previous owners said she was not].
They also said that she was left alone for 8-10 hours a day, in a kennel or taxi. She has seperation anxiety now, but it's getting much better! It's amazing how much she's improved in such little time. She's so smart.
She still has social anxiety, not near as bad, but when too many people are around you can see her anxiety.

I can't imagine how mistreated she must have been. Sometimes when I pick something up, she ducks like I'm going to throw it at her. I hate this...It hurts me.

She now knows: Come, Stay, Outside, Potty, Bye-Bye, Wave.....She loves bathtime and being brushed. she loves her bows!
But for some reason I have a hard time getting her to sit....she will sometimes for a Bil-Jac or to put her leash on or take it off, but most of the time I have to put my hand on her back-end before she will. If I hold the treat above her nose, to get her to sit on her own, she just walks away.....like she thinks I'm teasing her with it.

And this just in, as of two days ago.........I think Molly thinks she's a cat...
she only goes in the grass if she's needs to potty, and afterwards she scratches to 'bury' it....it's so strange, I've never seen a dog do this.

That's all I can really think of right now.....
I love her, and she has such a strong personality! She's very special.
She's usually very friendly, but sometimes she's snobby...literally...if she's in a snobby mood, and someone is talking to her, or trying to pet her, she'll keep looking away, as though she's ignoring them. lol. or turn her back to them....It's not often at all, but yesterday someone in PetCo did say that she was a Snob....in her defense, I told them it was because she hated the rain.....lol.

So, so far this has been Molly's story in my eye's....................
