| My yorkie attacks the cats My yorkie seems to have a growing hate for my 4 cats. Does anyone have this problem? We got our yorkie last May and she seems to hate the kitties more and more. She is now one year old and instead of slowly giving her more freedom in the house, I am having to take it away. She has started attacking the kitties. All 4 cats leave her alone and have never given her any problems that I know of. Maybe I am doing something wrong.

| Sorry to hear that you are having problems. some dogs just not like cats. I'm not sure what you can do about that. Maybe she is jealous of the cats. |

| If they are kittens they could possibly grow to be bigger than your yorkie. My cat is much larger than my yorkie. She won't go anywhere near my cat. A couple of good swipes from my cat cure any curiosity my yorkie had. The yorkie does tend to get a little jealous if my cat wants my attention but I nip that in the bud. She would growl anytime the cat came anywhere near me. For the most part they pretty much keep their distance from each other. The only advice I can offer is that if you see your yorkie attacking the cats is to put a stop to it.....which sounds like what you are doing already. Then again, when the kittens become bigger, they may put a stop to it themselves. You have to be careful that they don't scratch out your yorkies eyes though. My cat has a place to escape to where Brandi can't get to her. She jumps on something high and Brandi can't reach her. Try getting one of those thingys for you kittens where only they can climb up on and the yorkie can't reach them. This will give your kittens a great place to escape to when the yorkie starts chasing them. |

| I have 4 cats and they are age 4-6 years. I have had them since they were babies. We got our Yorkie baby in May 08. She just turned 1 year old. She has been around the kitties since we got her. We were trying to slowly give her more and more freedom when we are home. She seems to want to run the house. She chases the kitties. 2 of them have swiped at her and she mostly leaves those 2 alone. The 3rd kitty just runs away and goes up high somewhere. Now my maine coon who is 5 years old- she rolls over and takes whatever my yorkie wants to dish out. I don't get it- why won't she run away? I had to save her from my little 5 lb yorkie. All the kitties outweigh her. Now I have started keeping her on a leash inside the house so I can control her around the kitties. All the kitties act afraid of her. I think that's part of the problem. I also started giving Sophie a time out in the kitchen if she is mean to any of the kitties. My hubby says this is like having kids. Any advice is most appreciated. Thanks!

♥Tiny Tia my Furbaby♥ Donating Member | Unfortunately I can't help you there as I think Tia is going to be a cat lover. Only last week I visited my sister and she met her first cat, Tom, he was sitting at my sisters door. Well Tias never seen a cat before ,I let her approach him and she started to lick his face and wanted to play! I wish I had a camera lol he is huge.He just stood there and let her lick him! I don't see a reason why dogs and cats can't get on ,good luck with it. |

| Im fostering a kitten for the first time and my yorkie tries to BITE him in the neck...he bites his whole body, but he always tries to make his way to the neck and it seems violent. Timmy is incredibly sweet, rescued, and never lived with ppl to our knowledge before we got him. he was scared of EVERYTHING...but he turns crazy when he sees the kitten..is this instinct since they were originally bred to get rats?? will he stop if the kitten gets bigger? he really has a one track mind when the kitten is around and im scared for the kitten..he doesnt defend himself or scratch or anything.. ADVICE???

| Most cats and kittens if healthy can defend themselves from a yorkie.

| When Gracie was a puppy she was very aggressive with the cats. I had to teach it she could not behave that way. She was corrected every time she would chase, bite or growl at a cat or kitten. I had to constantly watch her. Teaching her to sit, stay, and come has been a great help. Since your dog is older now it may be a bit harder to stop this activity. I hope someone with more knowledge about training can help you. Gracie still feels she is the boss of all cats but gets along quite well with them to the point that she takes naps with them now. Just don't let them come near her favorite toy because then she will bark and tell them "no way!" |

| I don't have a cat at home but when at a friend's house, Pao got "batted" on the nose for getting too close by a cat and he knows to stay away.
