| ![]() I mean; if our babies ate less ![]() Nini has very short legs and is of a sturdy frame, the way I see it. Now, when she hit 8 lbs. her vet told me to quit it. Nini had been a very, very, but very picky eater and so I would stand on my head to make her eat. I tried everything! I succeeded in making her gain weight. The down-side? Stomach problems (vomiting). When she got sick, the vet put her on a 1 tea spoon, 3 times a day, ID diet for 24 hrs., with the following days moderately adding to her regular diet. It was Thanksgiving day when we had to start her on this diet and you can imagine her disbelieve. All those aromas in the air (for sure she was going to get a taste, right?) and then, everyone was eating well and she was only getting a tiny teaspoon of yucky food. When she was able to eat her regular foo, she did it with a vengeance. She ate everything, every time I served her. No more picky eater, at least for a while. She gained and gained until her vet said it was enough. If she hadn't pigged out so much, being that she's short, I wonder if she wouldn't "look so big"? I only stopped overfeeding after her vet scared me, but I don't care what people say about her size. I don't even know what a standard size is. My sister is 5'8" and people say she's standard size. She still looks like a shrimp to me ![]() Quote:

| ![]() Isabel's 6 pounds and where I live ALOT of people prefer the larger breeds of dogs (like g. hepherds and labs), so when Isabel is seen I find that the reaction is more commenting on how small she is. That's just this area though!

| ![]() We just took our little (or not so little) gal to the vet for more shots today. She is 10 weeks and now weighs 3.7 pounds. I have been a little concerned that she is going to be very large, but there were two adult Yorkies there today. The owner said one weighs 6 pounds and one weighs 10 pounds. They were both very small dogs. The 10 pounder did not look big at all, but I think that is because he has a really short haircut. Our dog is now estimated to be 8-9 pounds. Just perfect. |

| ![]() I'm thinking that maybe there is more of a 'size obsession' over in the USA? it doesn't seem as bad over here in the UK somehow.. I had a 6lb'er before Pixie and all I ever got with her was comments on how tiny she was..now I have a 3lb'er and people just stare in complete amazement when they see her! ![]()

![]() the ones that are creating problems are some of the "teacup" yorkie parents/potential parents rather than the tiny yorkies, so I really don't think its fair to post any nagative comment about tiny yorkies themselves, especially about their apprearance ![]() my girl is a tiny one and I don't see any bulging eyes at all, do u?

and its really not about my yorkie, or anybody's yorkie in particular. all yorkies/dogs are beautiful from the inside out. standards and terms are created by people, who are also the ones creating problems. dogs themselves don't get to choose how they look, they are as innocent as babies. it just bothers me to see judgemental comments made againest some dogs' appearance/size, espcially on YT. no yorkie should be labeled as crazy from appearance, even the ones from BYBers who don't have the optimal features. I would be so happy to see Dolly putting on some weight, and we are working on in. we are consulting a nutritionist and doing as much homecooking as possible. but I love her regardless. honestly size doesn't matter, just like some people are taller and some are shorter, no one is superior unless you are planning on being a model ![]() and thanks for the sweet comments on my girl ![]()

| ![]() You know, it's funny that I am reading this. I just had some reviews on my recents pics of Sophie. And someone remarked "I love a full Yorkie". And I'm thinking to myself...."what is a 'full' Yorkie". And I wasn't sure if I should be offended. (this is my first Yorkie). Sophie is 6 months old on Sunday and weighs between 5.5 - 6 lbs. I always thought the normal size for a Yorkie is 5-7 lbs. So I figure she's doing just fine. And just over the weekend an acquaintance saw her for the first time and said "oh, I thought she'd be smaller". She is 5.5 lbs. for goodness sake. How much "smaller" is she supposed to be? My Vet mentioned that under 3 lbs. brings along many health and dental problems. I'm glad my Sophie is "stocky". I don't fret as much if she wrestles the cats or jumps off the sofa (which scared me to death the first time). She's a stocky sort, I guess. The guidelines I've read say as long as you can feel their ribs and back bone (not see them) then thay are within their weight. This is what I feel when I rub my hands down the sides of my Sophie. I think she is just right. I think they are ALL precious in their own, individual ways! ![]() |

| ![]() the same thing happens to me! my baby weighs about 13 lbs. everytime i take him out for a walk, people comment on how big he is. i've gotten, "my that's a big yorkie. you're lucky he has a beautiful face." what am i supposed to make out of that comment? sure he's bigger than other yorkies, but there's nothing wrong with that. he's the perfect size in my opinion. i can wrestle with him, hug him tight and not worry that i'll break him. |

| ![]() People make that comment about Baxter sometimes also and he weighs just under 7 lbs! I just don't know why people want a teeny tiny dog. someone here once commented that those folks should just get a guinea pig and I couldn't agree more. |

| ![]() I'm thinking what attracts a lot of (naive) people to the Yorkie breed is their small size. Face it--people love puppies--and since Yorkies typically do not get much bigger -- it's their way of making sure they have a "forever puppy". My little sister got a puppy about three years ago, and now all she talks about is how much she misses when her dog was a "puppy and little and small" ... Anyway, after all that, it's definitely sort of seen as a "norm" to have a really small Yorkie. And just not as appealing to most people to have a "big yorkie". It's kind of sad...it's almost the same concept when it comes to people. Being "overweight" or whatever compared to being "the right weight.." People are so dumb sometimes lol. I dont think this lady really realized what she was saying sounded stuck up (thats what I got from it) .. |

| ![]() LOL! Now there you go. Just make sure they don't buy a "full" guinea pig. When I was in South Beach (Miami) last November, there were Yorkies everywhere! And I stopped and talked to each and everyone of them. I didn't see one that was more than 4 lbs. They were all beautiful, with beautiful coats and just healthy looking all around. Yorkies come in all shapes, sizes and colors. How can you not love all of them? |
