| ![]() i am sorry to all who have had a bad experience with rescues. i have also had a bad experience with a rescue, anyone interested can read about it here: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...ed-fairly.html i do hope that people who have had good experiences with rescues can share their stories so that it is something encouraging for us to read, because after my experience with that rescue, it really really put a bad taste in my mouth, and i have become pretty unwilling and reluctant to work with rescues, even though logically i know that NOT all rescues are like that! |

| ![]() Well I'm pretty sure I can yell at at the vets office staff because I hand delivered the paperwork at my dog's 1st visit to vet #2! And I really don't think vet #2 would have spayed her if he didn't see the paperwork! They were the ones that asked for the paperwork and they looked at everything to make sure she wasn't due for anymore shots at the first visit and they made sure the rabies certificate was good before she was spayed as well. So yeah I think I'm going to be yelling just a little. |

| ![]() Maybe the rescue placed got your application confused with someone else? My advice would be think twice before confronting vet. Ask them if that is what they really told the rescue people and then if so you can get mad. If not then maybe call the rescue place back and say I've talked to the vet and they never told you that perhaps you had me confused with someone else ???? Sorry... when it's right, the one you are supposed to have will come your way.

I am sorry that this happened to you but I guess it was a lesson that was hard to learn. At least you will know for the future and if one other person learns you can consider it a lesson learned by all.

| ![]() that is very frustrating. I am sorry you had to go through all the red tape, and still get denied by A vet error. There is a new vaccination shedule and if I am correct they are every three years now. I am not sure about the Rabies vaccine though. Rescue groups are very, very selective and IMO too picky. My parents were turned down over something about the vet too. From there last dog not having A blood test. All my parents dogs have lived to 16-17 yrs old . And are wealthy, retired couple. they did adopt a cute Lapso Alpso mix , eventually. Don't give up! Keep trying , and do go to your vet office and nicely get copies of your dog records, even discuss it over with the vet, and make sure everything is in order. That is if you are going to try getting a dog from a different rescue group. ![]()

| ![]() Maybe asking for their references. I got to say after getting Barley in such poor condition from a "rescue" group, I will definitely do my research before working with another rescue group. They made me verbal promises that never happened. Like he would be micro chipped when he was neutered. Didn't happen at all. When I questioned them about these things the answers I got were...the lady whom I spoke to was just a volunteer and she was misinformed. When asked how a vet could see him for the neuter and shots he received and miss his kennel cough and bad ear infections. They simply replied that they only get shots and neuter, not vet exams. I was like how does a vet neuter a dog and not know he has kennel cough...they have to put them to sleep and listen to their lungs. They said maybe he didn't have it then. It was four days before I got him! I wonder if he was even put to sleep as his testicles were so swollen my vet thought they missed one of them, but it was a blood clot. Long story to tell you....checking into the rescue group is very sound advise. Do a google search on them, call the animal control where they are located and see if they have had any problems, ask for past adopters to see if they recommend this group. Knowledge is power and it will help you find a rescue group that you can rely on for advise and maybe make some new friends. I know I'll be more proactive the next time I use one. Good luck ![]()

| ![]() Quite honestly I don't imagine alot of these rescues would be too keen on the adoptive parent asking tons of questions! Alot of these people really are rude. Not that it will stop me from asking questions now especially the question of being put in contact with other adoptive parents! Seriously sometimes I think it would be easier to adopt a kid from Nairobi or some other far away place than it is to adopt a rescue dog sadly. ![]() |

| ![]() I am right in the middle of getting involved with a rescue here in my state. Just went through the vet paperwork, the phone interview, and now I am waiting for the home inspection. Haven't even signed up for fostering yet, just trying become a volunteer right now. It seems like a lot, but the animals are worth it. Please don't give up because of the politics and paperwork. You are not doing it because of the human element, you are doing it for the welfare of the animals. Ignore the rude people, just imagine the poor animals that have to deal with that rude half-wit. Best of luck! |

Additionally, that means that the rescue can't take in more animals, and of course, it can turn people off the rescue idea entirely. With so many animals euthanized every year, the cycle of pet ownership simply cannot stop at the shelter. These animals need and deserve new homes. I'm not saying that rescues should throw dogs at anyone who comes in the door, but dogs do not process "abandonment" the way people do. A dog can have several owners in its lifetime and be blissfully happy with all of them. I volunteer at a shelter, and while almost all of the placements are successful, a few dogs are returned. Even these dogs do eventually find their "forever" homes. It's nice to be in a place with so many happy endings.

| ![]() I have been watching the rescue sites in my state with the hopes of finding a playmate for my 1 yr old girl. I've been a little put off by all the stories I've read and am worried that I wouldn't pass inspection. I don't have a fenced yard ( we live in a rural area ) and I've lost two 4 legged family members in the last 4 years. One to illness and 1 a freak accident. I was also listed as a reference for a friend trying to adopt from a rescue and when I contacted the foster mom she was very rude and not interested at all in talking to me. So far, my experiences haven't been positive. But we're still trying!
