I am a rescue reject :( Well I am just venting here.... I finally got a phone call from a rescue for one of the million applications I've filled out! Yippee I thought. But no this was for 2 dogs that HAVE to be saved together & my husband adamently says no to 2 more dogs. One new dog is it because of the vet bills, food, toys etc. Anyway I talk to the fostermom for an hour & then she calls my refeerences & says they all checked out EXCEPT the vet! WHAT THE HECK?! She said they told her Precious was a yr & a half behind on her shots!!! I emailed her back because I have only had Precious for 1 year this week as a matter of fact! Plus I told them on the application that Precious started out with a vet that was very old & had a stroke or something & I then had to find another vet to continue treating her kidney infection & do her spaying!!!! I copied all the paperwork from vet #1 & gave it to vet#2 & it should be in her file!! Like the vet would have done the spaying without her shots being up to date. And to boot we already have an appointment set up for her next well visit & boosters! Well it wasn't meant to be since my husband said I can only have 1 more dog but maybe that's why I never got a call from any of the other applications I've sent in. Well when I go to the vet in 2 weeks you better believe they are going to get a piece of my mind! Can the office staff actually open her chart before they give people false information! Oh well thanks for listening to me vent. When I'm meant to find my next perfect pup I'm sure I will:) MOMMY OF PRECIOUS:aimeeyork |
There was a reason why this time didnt work out. I bet once you have sorted your vet out, the next rescue to come along will be perfect and you will understand why you had to wait a bit. I'll be watching out for your next posting and news hopefully of a new furbaby. |
That's horrible!!! I think I would be looking for another vet! Or complain to the vet about the office staff. Sometimes the doctors have no idea what goes on up front. I'm so sorry about your applications... I'm mad for you! |
New vet? I'd call the staff right now and demand answers. After all you are paying them for a service that they are not giving. Don't wait until you go there and she needs her shots, call now and get them to call the foster back with an explaination. It's not fair to you. Why pay them all that money and them stab you in the back like that. There are too many vets out there to put up with that. And if they don't then you still have two weeks to look for a new vet. It amazes me how some vets treat you like you have to use them. You don't have to. Amazing how stupid the foster lady was to think they'd spay her and not have her shots up to date. |
Working with rescue and being aware of the new vaccine protocols, I've wondered if this is going to be a problem for potential new fosters and adopting families. What some vets may consider "behind on vaccinations" may be a pet owner just following the new guidelines that some other vets aren't on board with yet. I would think as long as you've had a well check within a year, and are current on vaccinations according to the new protocols you would still be considered. |
Don't you think that if you were that far behind on shots they would have called you to set up an appointment. All I can say is IDIOTS!! They certainly would hear me when I got there next visit. Ask them why they spayed your baby without having the proper shots then. Put it back on them. They are fools. |
That is what you need to remember.... Quote:
My mother tried to rescue a dog off of petfinder about a year and a half ago. He is a hairless dog who is by most standards pretty ugly and homely looking... Anyway long story short she was treated really ruthlessly by the 'rescue lady' , she was ignored and never replied to after her application. Mind you that this was 3 months after first seeing the dog, knowing this WAS the dog for her, the dog was 300 miles away and my mom was more than ready to drive all that way for 'Dooley". My mom was patient, and is by all standards a wonderful, educated, caring person who would treat any animal like gold. She is a registered nurse, makes good money etc. Finally after a few more months of being disrespectfully treated I suggested she find another dog. She could not consider it, she knew this was the one for her. Finally, they gave in and set up an appointmant for a home inspection, that went wonderful and it turns out the person inspecting our home was an aquaintance fromt the hospital she works at. Turns out the lady who was treating my mom that way didn't even have the dog, she was 'covering' for someone else who really cared for him. The whole situation was very unprofessional. She was quickly approved after that to go get her new dog and she did just that. The dog came and the first day she noticed her was FULL of worms! (It was disgusting) He was filthy and was really in need of some skin care too (hairless dog) My mom really rescued the dog from the rescuers!. She has hand sewn him more than 30 sets of P.J.'s, oufits etc. She installed a basket for him to go on bike rides with her, and she also has made a real cubby in the side of her bedroom, drywall and all so he has his own little space to hide in. (it is really extensive what she's done for him)They are a match made in heaven. My point is you cannot get too bent out of shape because of someone judging you by paperwork etc. because sometimes they are real retarts themselves that don't even care correctly for what they have in their care. How many times have you heard of a 'rescue org.' that the dogs are living in terrible, overcrowded, hoarding style conditions? It happens a lot (not saying always) but keep your chin up. The right thing will work out for you that is meant to be. Don't let people make you feel bad. |
I think what would worry me the most was the incorrect information from the Vet. What happens if for some reason you need to to another Vet and they too are miss informed. I would seriously consider another Vet. As for the rescue, you really can't blame her, she was looking out for the best interest of the dog and is'nt that what she is supposed to do. |
I don't know how I feel about rescues checking veterinary history. I get why some do it, but as I've said before, that precludes all first time pet owners. Isn't the point of rescue to get pets to their forever homes? I'm pretty sure I would have been turned down for a rescue dog before I had Thor, and I got lucky with him (he belonged to an acquaintance of mine). Anyway, I definitely want to get a rescue in six months to a year. Keep your chin up! It is a great thing you are doing, giving a dog a second chance at a wonderful home. |
All I can say is some rescues are more professional than the others and still in the professional rescues, there are some volunteers who still could be quite unprofessional so I think you have to pick the rescues before you rescue. I learnt this lesson from experience but I didn't manage to rescue because I have not owned a pet in Canada back then therefore no vet references and I lived in a condo that allows pets but no rescues would believed me. If only they check with my condo's concierge first they would have understood how many dogs are actually living in my building from chihuahuas to a rottweiler and our building had a run designed for dogs. |

Whatever I'm sure I will eventually find another dog to rescue. I even think of Precious as a rescue because the family I got her from at (1 1/2 yrs old) took horrible care of her her nails were ungodly long, she had a raging kidney infection & was peeing blood & wasn't fixed! Now she is perfectly healthy, happy & spoiled to death!!!!!!!!!!!:D MOMMY OF PRECIOUS:aimeeyork |

I dont mean to hord in but what is the new pet protocol. |
Make sure the info was actually transferred and when before you yell at the office staff. I used to work in a Vet clinic and faxes sometimes don't arrive and if we didn't know it was coming we didn't know to miss it if it didn't show up. |
Awww sorry this has happened to you but just remember when its the right time it will come! |
