| I'm desperate...I need help Quick summary.....Maya was almost perfectly trained, we'd have maybe one mistake a day, but most days went well. I was beginning to be able to relax with her and enjoy her in the house. Mika returns with daughter...Mika is so perfectly trained in Atlanta that she would hold it upwards to 12 hours while daughter was at work. Mika moves back home, the bottom drops out.....Mika poops on the STAIRS of all places. Maya pees and poops on the couch. I limit their territory to the kitchen......I send them out for frequent potty breaks....both still poop and pee in the kitchen at will. I send them out this morning. Mika pees right at my feet, then Maya poops. THEY HAD JUST BEEN OUTSIDE. Add to all this madness, Maya's spay is MOnday, and I know they go a little off kelter after a spay. I have them both in crates right now, mostly for their protection because I am at my wits end. Two dogs that were doing so well...I'm retired and my day is one long never ending potty break, trying to get these girls to remember to do it OUTSIDE and not in my house, on my couich , just wherever they feel like it. I can't take much more of this.

| Do they wee and poo while you are on walkies? I would walk them every hour...even if just for 10 minutes, or until the do their business. They usually like to mark while they are out. I know it worked for my brothers dog, who used to only ever wee in the house, and now only ever wees outside! Good luck. |

| The training starts all over again. Make sure they know the rules of the house. I go thru this evertime Manolo visits his Mom. He comes back marking my house. Good Luck to you.....Lissette |

| I agree that training starts from square one. Did you start crate training or xpen. And take them out each 45 min to one hour. If they pee and poop then they can play for a while but back into the pen. Then outside again. Baxter hasn't had a accident in the house since 4 months old ( in know I was very lucky) Good luck!! But one should learn from the other. If that is a help

| Thank you for the replies.....I'm doing crate training.....starting all over with a two year old and a 9 month old. I'm truly concerned about Maya's spay on Monday, that just throws more salt into the game. This is not how I pictured my "golden years"

| If it helps any I went through the same thing with SophieKate--twice, once after she had Pneumonia and again after the Spay. When we started over again she seemed to pick up on it very fast. I know it is frustrating, I still go a little nuts sometimes but it will get better.

| I totally agree with everyone here. I'm sorry it's going so rough for you. Try and think of this through your puppy's eyes...she was the only one getting all the love and attention, now there's another dog getting her loving. They get jealous, and well one of them decided that they'd show the other who's more important to you and started leaving their signs of that everywhere for the other to see. Please, have patience. I know cleaning it up is so frustrating, but go back to limiting their area to roam freely in the house for now. I noticed in your thread you stated a few times that you take them or put them outside...is that just outside or do you walk them? Mollysmum hit the nail on the head with this one...when I first got Barley he poohed in doors right after being outside, but once I started regular daily walkies now in just three weeks (he was 1 to 2 when I adopted him, depending on which of my vets you talk to ) Barley has the run of my house, and no accidents. Most dogs need the mental stimulation of getting out and smelling new things, and these little ones have tons of energy. We're up to 2 miles on our walks now and Barley still wants to go more, but my Great Pyrenees is like enough already ) Hang in there and it will all be worth it. What better way is there to spend your golden years? A new puppy to keep you on your toes and exercising.

This is the one thing that has kept me patient with Maya, I just knew that when she got older she would get it tooo, but with both of them going haywire on me, I wonder if I am even cut out to be a dog owner. I'm so discouraged.

For the past couple of days we have done walks, Mika loves it because this is what she was used to in Atlanta, but she also seems to love love love a real back yard that she can stretch her legs and run in. There is some special bone the girls have back there, and the favorite game is keep away, and they just run and run.

| Oh yes Mika has another favorite thing. There is a place right near a rock in my flower bed. Mika has decided that she will dig her way to Japan and find her mother. The dirt is jet black, and he paws and all of her face come in dirty and black. ....and you guessed it, Maya has decided not to be left out of the fun, so I have two very dirty little yorkies everyday.

| The most signifcant thing that helped me with potty training Snickers was making the treat he gets when he goes correctly the BEST treat possible. Snickers will do anything for a Wellness Jerky Treat-Venison (I cut each square into 4's-1 bag lasts a long time.) As soon as I started using these (and only these for potty and any training) he started to be 100%. I was so relieved!! Some also suggest butterscotch baking chips (mini ones.) Find something she will go bonkers over and ONLY use them for potty rewards!!

| Hi I am new here but I found with training is it is easier if they are kept in a small area where they have their bed. Not too much space away from their bed to walk around. Most dogs wont mess in their sleeping area. Take them out every 20 to 30 mins to go and say go go or potty whatever you like. If they go out where they are supposed to give them a very small treat and praise.Let them stay out of their pen for some play time but only when you are there to watch them. When you cant watch them they have to go back in their pen. Anyway hope this helps you. It worked for me when had a Papillon pup some time ago Elinor |

Thor still isn't potty trained, but what I believe the turning point for me was to crate him, and then put him on a pee pad every few hours. If he didn't potty, he went back in the crate. When he finally started pottying, he got an incredible treat (right now, a teaspoon of ice cream). It seems to be working pretty well. I put him on his pad every few hours, tell him to potty, and he goes. As long as he's on empty, I'm giving him run of the living room and front hallway. It sounds like you are training them to go outside, but I thought maybe my story would trigger an idea for you. Also, Thor goes to the park almost every day, and being so small, he comes home filthy. While a normal sized dog might have dirty paws, pretty much everything under his armpits is covered in dirt. I've started giving him a mini-bath every day. I fill the sink with warm water, dunk him in it for a minute, and then let him loose. He doesn't mind at all, and he's at least clean enough that he's not going to leave a trail when he walks.

| Again Thanks everyone....welll I have two treats that they really love, and I was doing that consistently...so it's not for lack of goodies....just looks to me like they don't give a hoot about where they do it, but we've been in the crates all day today except for frequent potty breaks. This last time, Mika just looked like, I'm not coming in that door because as soon as I do you are going to put me back in that crate. I did, but I gave both of they their treat in the crate for going outside.

| So it's day 2 of the crate thing... and the Gods are not being kind.....it rarely, if ever snows in Memphis.....but we got almost 4 inches yesterday and the girls and I awoke to winter wonderland. They were having none of going outdoors, and don't understand diddly about newspaper and pee pads. Why oh WHY???????????????????? Right here in the middle of this important step in the training. Oh yeah we got to take that walk again yesterday, in the pre snow sleet..today doesn't look good for the walk in the snow though.
