| Money Money Money Money Yep it was a song by the O'jays, but it also seems to be a theme of my life right now.....now for all of you ladies out there with husbands, and a second income coming into the house, please be patient with single-Mom me on this...... and yes, I know no price is too much for our Babies, but with that being said here is my situation: I recently retired with ONE YORKIE to care for. When you retire from my school system your income drops to HALF whatever your salary was at retirement.... so imagine, within one month's time you are now living SINGLE with a double family mortgage on HALF your regular salary. THEN your daughter shows up with yorkie #2 to "give back" to you because she is off to pursue her new life. Ok many of you read my post about the crazy photographer who wanted a king's ransom for pictures of the kids....now that is optional, and can be skipped, but Maya's spay coming up Monday is another thing. So I decide to call and get some preliminary figures. "How much is her spay going to cost? $385.00 "WHAT" "Well see we do laser. IT is less invasive, and the "recovery" time is quicker (does Maya have a job to get back to???) "Ok what about the Microchip" "47.50" And to pull the baby teeth (when Mika had this done, they charged PER TOOTH, and Maya has 6 or more that need out) "We don't have a price for that" "Ok her anal glands need aspirating because she is scooting on the carpet" "15.00" "So in other words, this will all come in with tax right at or above $500.00" "Yes Mam" Ok folks I have to run an errand, but I will be back, and I would like to know what you all think about this one. When we had Mika spayed...it was like 170.00, that was a year and a half ago. I'm NOT being cheap, it is NOT that I don't think they are "worth every penny", but I also do think there is such a thing as vet to the stars and normal vets, what say you????

| I paid $350 for my Dexter to get fixed... won't do that for fletcher... you can get it done just as good the traditional way for WAY less money. Its a vet who wants to make a killer living in my opinion that charges those kinds of prices for a standard procedure such as a spay or neuter. I found a new vet who would do Fletcher for $100 and was just as good as my old vet. Notice I said 'old' cuz I am switching vets. I had my old vet fax the new vet all my pups records already. Im done paying outrageously for necessary care. I am also a 'single mom' with 2 'kids' and a mortgage so I totally understand.

| Do you have a shelter near you that offers low-cost spaying and neutering? Many animal shelters will offer that for low-income pet owners.

| I'm from Louisiana and my vet only charges $45 to $ 65 to fix a puppy! He is wonderful! For Alex's shots it only cost me $25. Hugs

| Oh, I should also mention... do you mind traveling? If you can't find a shelter that will offer it, you could try looking for a vet in a smaller place. When I got Layla spayed, I think it cost $180. I took her to the vet in the small town where I grew up. They were great to her and didn't charge the sometimes outrageous city vet prices! A friend of mine had her dog spayed around the same time for $425 here in the city.

| Look for a spay/nueter clinic in your area, they do dental at the same time and it is much cheaper but still quality care. |

| i totally understand...spaying and neutering can be so expensive...i am appreciating more and more the breeders who spay & neuter their puppies before sending them to their furever homes...IMO it is super responsible on the breeders part because they know there will not be any "sneaky" breeding going on behind their backs...and also it is scary enough for a young puppy to go to a new home, try and get adjusted and WHAM, go through a surgery....i would prefer it all be done so that all the trauma is over and you can just love on them ... however, i do realize this requires them to keep the puppies longer and i do understand why many do not do this however, i have already paid for bentleys neuter once (long story) and need to get him neutered for real this time i love my vet - he is great - but when i called for an estimate, i came up with over $500 for the neuter, baby teeth removal, pre op bloodwork, etc...i am sorry, i love my kids to death but i think that is ridiculous! i have looked into the local SPCA and they offer lower cost neuters and i am going to contact them....i completely feel your pain!

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Just make sure you find a vet that uses gas, and not injectables for anesthesia. Small dogs really require gas for safety, and either Isoflurane or Sevoflo is considered safe. Unfortunately these are costlier than injectables. Your vet sounds a little on the high side to me.

| Pasquale is at the vet's right now getting neutered. His estimate was 485$ Mind you, he's already microchipped AND they dont use laser. And that doesnt include any bloodwork. I guess it depends on the area.

| I pd $95 for Sullie to be neutered, 4 baby teeth pulled and whatever they do to the adrenaline glands. This is a hometown vet that is wonderful. It's hard to believe the differences in prices |
