| Thank goodness we took her with us! Last night, Valentine's Day, Hubby booked us an outside table at our favourite tapas restaurant. Puddin', as my Valentine's prezzie, came with us. We got home just after 9...we'd been gone 2 1/2 hours...and as I headed to the bathroom to put Puddin' on her puddle pad I noticed our big screen TV in the middle of the hallway. It took a second to click, but I realized we were being burglarized! They only got away with some inexpensive jewellery, a couple of watches and two laptops, but what scared me the worst was the condition of the bathroom. It is a large room, at least 12 x15 ft, and the dressing area has been given to Puddin' as her bedroom. Apparently the intruders were looking for a wall safe, as every closet and cupboard in the place was open, clothes all over the floor, and her bed and crate shoved to the side. Imagine if we have left her there, thinking she was safe in her little "bedroom"? She is so tiny, she would have easily been injured, not to mention terrorized. She slept in our bed last night as I can't clean until the police forensics guys have been here and the thieves spilled stuff all over the floor that I am afraid to let Puddin' walk through. Everybody is OK, the Maltese Mafia are stressed out and the Foxy is her normal goofy, oblivious self...but I can't help but fret about what would have happened to my baby if we had decided to leave her in her "safe" bedroom. They kicked down a heavy-duty security gate to the upstairs family room to get the TV...I have no illusions about how they would have treated a tiny puppy if it got underfoot!

| OMG how awful for you!!! That makes me so angry. I am glad that no one was hurt, that would have just been too much to take.

| That is horrible. I know you feel violated, and now you will worry everytime you leave home. Lord why can't people just leave other people to their lives???

| I'm sorry to hear this, but pleased that Puddin' was out safely with you and your husband, and that your other dogs are also safe. Being burglarized is such a violation: your home is supposed to be safe, your haven. It rocks your foundation to find out that it's NOT as safe as you thought it was. I hope the damage is not too bad, and that you will recover your peace of mind (or, as the Chinese would put it ever-so-well, your Chi). On a lighter note, I'll bet Puddin' was the best Valentine's Day present at the tapas restaurant ! |

| I am so sorry that had to happen to you. What is wrong with people? They might have known the street "value" of your baby and taken her too. |

| It has been an exhausting day for all of us. Pudding has spent the day on our bed as she can't get into the bathroom to her space, the other dogs have been clingy, and we've have police and forensic guys here. Apparently the burglars were pros...they wore gloves and knew exactly what kind of stuff to take. The only reason we didn't lose more, it seems, is that we came home after they had tossed the place and pocketed the small stuff, but before they could find a way to get the bigger stuff out. You see, they chipped the putty out of a stationary window and removed the glass and crawled through the opening. It allowed them in, but didn't give them a way to get big things like the TVs and such out. We have bars on all the windows that can be opened (fire is not a big issue here with our masonry homes), but these guys took a window pane out of the window frame to get in...and did it with gloves on. They left a drawer full of DVDs, CDs, fragile collectibles (like a Waterford Crystal clock worth more than the SD card reader they took). The police theorize we came into the house as they were starting to remove the larger items...the big screen TV was in the hall at the bottom of the stairs and the smaller TV was on the floor next to the open window. Our insurance company sent a glazier out at 1 in the morning to put in a new glass pane and at 9 this morning the man who made our iron balconies came to measure up for window guards in our master suite and to beef up our security door...they kicked in the security door at the top of the stairs and these guys know what is still in the house so we are concerned they may come back. And Puddin'? She slept through the whole thing...she even slept through the night! She is just the cutest thing on four legs!!

| What a terrible thing to have happened! I am so glad you took your little one with you. As long as Puddin is fine that is all that matters. The rest is just "stuff" and can be replaced. Wishing you better days, Boobah, tiny Gina and Gelise!
