| Does my Dexter know when I'm sad?! I keep trying to tell my husband that Dexter knows he should console me when I'm sad. Dexter will lick my face vigorously if he sees me crying. Does he just like the taste of tears or is this a pack thing? Is he trying to make me feel better? That's what I think. I mean it works...I can hardly be sad anymore... Usually I'm crying over something trivial, like a sad story, or movie. I can only imagine the support I'd get from my furbaby in a real crisis. I guess I think I'm that lucky, to have such an awesome best friend. -dexter's mom |

| These little ones are so smart! Yes, I believe they know when we are sad. They do not want the leader of their pack to be sad. They also know when we are happy & want so much to please us

Really? Mine is particularly ornery- I think she wants so much to frustrate me!! lol I do think they can tell, when I am sad mine will lay done and put her head on her paws and look around like she knows something is wrong. As soon as I call her over she starts licking and trying to play, and like you it almost instantly cheers me up. I love that darn furball.... | |

| I am no expert, but I truly believe that they can sense a lot of different things. I not only believe they can tell when you are happy or sad, they know when you aren't feeling well or depressed. From what I have seen, SpiceE's mood mimics not only mine, but the "vibe" of the household. It is fairly noticable. One thing it does do for me is remind me of my mood and when I need to change it

| Yes, I believe our yorkies know when we are sad and blue. My Boobah comes to me when she hears me crying or looking sad. She will bring her little red ball to me and act like she wants me to throw it for her. Like trying to bring me out of my black cloud. My other yorkie, tiny Gina, 3 lbs, just sits there looking at me trying to figure me out. Like saying, why is mom crying? But Boobah is a whole different story. She cries also when she is sad and then Im the one to brighten her up. They are just like people. I love my yorkies. From Boobah, tiny Gina and Gelise.

| oh they do know when you're sad! Usually they can sense it before even human friends/family, at least that's how it is with mine at my parent's house. |

| I agree with the others, I think they understand our moods more than we'd like to think. My "tribe" is especially cuddly when they sense that I'm not feeling well or am sad. They become very protective of me.

| Oh yes, I truly believe they know what you are feeling. Wookie does that face licking thing when I am crying also, but he also whimpers when I cry. It just breaks my heart and I have to stop crying so he won't. I am going through a tough time right now, my husband and I are splitting up, and Wookie knows there are problems. He is being so extra sweet and cuddly to me (he is not normally a real affectionate dog, unless he is tired). So there is no way in the world anyone could convince me that dogs don't feel or know what you are feeling....

| Dogs absolutely sense when we are sad... Freeway was not at all a cuddle bug, he had his moments, but for the most part he just wanted to play, eat, and sleep... When I was 15, a friend of mine committed suicide and sweet little Freeway did not leave my side for weeks upon weeks. He would sit right beside me and put his head on my leg. He was such a comfort... miss the little guy.

| I agree with all the other posters. When I am sad or crying Shiloh climbs up in my lap and nuzzles me. Sometimes he even brings me his favorite blankie to cuddle with. I guess cause it soothes him he thinks it will do the same for me. Along the same lines I also think that they can tell when you are sick. I had cancer about a year ago (yay for remission!) and when I took radiation/chemo therapy I was constantly nauseous. Shiloh would come into the bath room with me and whimper non stop. Then he would run around the house barking his head off frantically searching for someone to come help me. He would grab their pants leg and tug them towards my bathroom. Honestly I wouldn't know what would do if something happened to my little guy. He isn't just a pet to me, he is part of the family. |

| Dogs ABSOLUTELY know when you are having different emotions They probably know when you're having a bad day better than you do They are experts at reading expressions - body language and tone of voice I had a cough last week and everytime I had a coughing jag my two guys would both come running from where ever they were as if to say .... What can I do? Can I help??
