| When to add another to our family I am curious to know the different opinions of when to add another yorkie to our family. As far as bonding goes, is it best for them to bond with us or each other? I heard if I add a pup while Maximus is still a pup, then he will bond with the pup and not us. Is that a good thing?

| hmmm... i don't honestly know- however, i know many people buy two puppies at once- and i have never read that there are issues with human bonding. If it were me, I would do it when my dog was still a puppy because sometimes when dogs grow out of being a puppy- they have very little patience for puppy play and that could get in the way of their bonding. Also the younger your dog is, i feel, the less jealousy there will be from your dog or the need to protect "his" territory. But that's just my two cents |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | Hello, It took 5 years for me to get another dog, Harry boy had a hard time getting use to little Prada I wish I would had adopted my little girl when Harry was younger, my daughter adopted another little girl about the same time we got Prada and the girls LOVE each other to pieces. I guess I would advise you to get another one while your pup still young.. hugs, cArmen in nj |

| It worked out to where we added a new one about every 6 months. They get along perfect, except during heat season, then the girls get bitchy, but mine have done great.

| I think a lot of it depends on your household, your lifestyle, and the temperament of your current dog(s) and the new one. You'll know when it's the right time and the right dog. We got Smokey at age 6 months when Chip was 10 months and both of them are equally attached to us humans as they are each other. Good luck!

| I think pups bond easier when they are bought at the same time, but they don't bond as much with you - you don't become part of their pack. And if you have an adult dog, the best time to get a puppy is when your present dog is a good role model. I have personally wanted to get another yorkie ever since I got Cash, but that has not worked out, partly because I am a bit young for all that responsibility and my parents would freak out - my dad is not an animal lover at all! (The only dog he deems worthy is a Staffordshire Terrier.) But as soon as I am finished with my studies and my year in France, I am getting a girl!!
