I think a lot of it depends on your household, your lifestyle, and the temperament of your current dog(s) and the new one. You'll know when it's the right time and the right dog. We got Smokey at age 6 months when Chip was 10 months and both of them are equally attached to us humans as they are each other. Good luck!
