To me, I think the OP is trying to come to terms as to how this tragedy could have happened and why. It is still fresbh in her mind, and i believe it is a natural thing to be angry and hurt . Those dogs had been around her yorkie before in the past without showing any signs of aggression. Yes, I feel like she has every right to be angry at the breed for now. She needs time to grieve and come to terms in her own way .
Maybe, with time and Healing, she will understand that it was a horrible tragedy , and not the whole breed .... Right now, that is the focus , and i feel is understandable.
To me, no dog should be trusted around a tiny , fraglie breed lit the yorkie, without supervision at all times. Things happen is a heartbreak, and their is no turning back time.
I feel so bad for the OP nad the loss of her dear sweet, precious Yorkie, Sophie. RIP , little Sophie.

im so sorry to read about sophie, we too have a sophie, she is scared to death of retrievers also, we dont know why but when she was a few weeks old found her out in the yard screaming at the fence and wetting herself, she was terrified. Who was on the other side of the fence ?? a golden retriever just standing there staring at her, not moving barking just staring. it was creepy, now sophie just flies at them (the only type )on the attack , thank god she has always been on the lead when we have encountered them.. i suppose she thinks attack them first befre they get her ?? horrible not been a fan since (sorry retriever owners, try not to tar all with the same brush )

It's so difficult to lose a dog - a member of your family. But to lose it in such a way must have been especially difficult. I can't imagine what you are going through now, but my heart goes out to you.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your dog.

Thank you. I have put my name into the spca, when/if i am considered to be a good home, I will begin looking into adopting an older small breed dog as a companion for chloe and myself. I hope im not rushing into it, And i hope nobody thinks i am trying to replace sophie. No body could replace her. I accually asked if there were any older small breed dogs available. And they have a 12 year old yorkie X. I will be seeing if she is a good match for myself and chloe. And if so, I will be adopting!!
