| reaction to shots... i took jackson to the vet yesterday for his second set of shots... first off, he weighs 6 pounds already (he's only almost 12 weeks!!) but he's not overweight, he's just a bigger guy. i'm wondering if he's maybe mixed with something else besides yorkie but who knows, i don't really care. she said he's perfectly healthy, everything is good, except he has a little overbite and his bottom teeth are poking into his top gums so he may have to have baby teeth removed, possibly adult too. but anyways, i take him home and he's acting a little funny and then he started throwing up. he threw up about 3 times and then he was dry heaving. so i called the vet and they told me to bring him right back in, and they gave him a shot of something to help - i believe they said some sort of steroid. he was shaking like i had NEVER seen him do before! so then they gave him bendadryl. he had a reaction to the lepto shot! so they said they obviously will never give him that again. anyone else ever have anything like this happen?

| Lepto is known for causing reactions in Yorkies. Sometimes the reactions are fatal. You are lucky you are close to your vet. Most of us never get the lepto vaccine. It is discussed a lot here. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...s-vaccine.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...epto-shot.html |

| I have 2 boys, one you wouldn't even know he got shots, the other one needs to get a pain shot before his shots and a benedryl shot with his shots. The pain shot because he SCREAMS when you touch him after he had his shots, the benedryl one because he had his shots and blew up all swollen and red, his eyes swelled shut, he was rubbing on my carpet to itch himself. Poor little guy. I keep childrens benedryl on hand just in case. I think reactions can be pretty common in these smaller breeds. I take them only once every 3 years for their shots now. They are a little over 3 years now, so they have until a year from now before they need another round. I hope my little guy outgrows his reaction by then.

| The exact same thing happend to Ben, after I took him home from the Vets. He started throwing up and I was freaking out because he had never done that before, and he was gagging too. I called the vet asap and they said that he was most likley having a reaction to the Lepto shot, and that if he continued to vomit, to bring him in and they would give me a shot to reverse the reaction. He calmed down, so I didnt have to take him in, so now I know that the next time he ever has to have that shot, that he needs to have a shot that will not make him have that reaction! I know how you feel, it was very scarey to watch!

| Yes, that happens sometimes. After Ellie got DHLPP-C and rabies (by the way, no animal of mine will ever get this many the same day again), she threw up, collapsed and went into shock. She was unresponsive and needed emergency care. It was most likely lepto or rabies that did it. I didn't know of the dangers of lepto at that time and I didn't know that rabies should never be given with any other vaccine.
