| Wanna get my mom a yorkie for christmas! Now I am not trying to get bashed or lectured or anything. I know my mom would LOVE a yorkie of her own to cuddle and spoil. She has a boxer already that we rescued from a humane society in Quebec, Canada. So Now I've been looking for a yorkie for her, I know she would just be sooo happy to have a little yorkie pop out of the bag on Christmas Eve! I can't afford to spend hundreds to thousands at the moment but I found a 6 month old one that is pretty decently priced. She is suppose to be around 8 lbs adult. Tell me what you think? She is AKC the lady said. I just want opinions on how she looks? She looks like a big fluffy pup to me I just want to make sure she is adorable. My mom feel in love with stormy and really wanted to keep her but Stormy is sooo attached to me that my parents are amazed by how loyal and loving she is towards me, I am her whole world. My mom wants that kind of bond with a little dog she can take everywhere. Shes got the time for a pup but not the money for a sick dog so I am hoping this works out. I am asking alot of questions and I know the mistakes I made last time buying one. I just want opinions on how she looks! Heres a couple pictures. My mom likes stormys look and would be happy with a yorkie that looks like a yorkie when full grown! |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Have you shown your mom the pictures? I'm not normally one that believes in giving pets as gifts, I know your mom wants one, but don't you think she should also be active in the selection process? To answer your question, the little girl is really cute, but I worry so much about people on limited incomes, finding a good deal. How much do you know about the breeder, what if there are health problems, some illnesses are so expensive to treat. All that said, I would get her.

| You mention that your mom wants a dog she can take everywhere. Does this imply tiny, & light weight? If so, the pup looks "large" being held by the man in the right hand photo. Also, pups ears are down. Might your mother expect the ears to be up in a Yorkie? How do you think your mom's boxer & a Yorkie pup will get along?

| That pup looks terrified to me, and looks(unless it's the picture) like it's going to be pretty good sized. It is very sweet of you to think about your Mom like that, but, I also have to agree, if it's going to be for her for Christmas, then tell her that you would like to get her one, and would like for her to pick one out, then start looking at a few different places |

| She's adorable, but looks a lot larger than 8 lbs. Truthfully, she looks like she about the size of my Smokey and he's 14 lbs. Also, if your mom wants a standard looking yorkie - this pups ears are floppy... most yorkies get their ears up when they are a lot younger than 6 months. Personally I love big teapot, floppy eared babies, but it doesn't sound like what your mom wants. Have you looked on petfinder to see if there is a rescue?

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | This pup is 6 months, she won't put on that much more weight will she? To the OP, do you know how much she weighs now? I thought they wouldn't add much more than 1-2 pounds after 6 months. I don't think that the pup looks terrified, it's just the angle of the eye in the first picture, Joey has pictures like that.

| I agree with the thought the pup will be more than 8 lbs.... Other than that she is adorable. Maybe you could take her to a vet before you buy her to make sure there are no health problems lurking. A puppie or older yorkie from a rescue group would be behavioral evaluated and already spayed and vaccinated. The price for those are about $250 to $600. AKC or other papers are not a guarantee that the dog is healthy or well behaved and since I assume your mother does not like to breed her papers are not necessary. | I agree with everyone else I would let your mom help in picking one out. Instead of getting the pup maybe get items for a new pup and I IOU and tell her that you will let her pick one out with you. I think that will make you both Happy. ... the pup in the picture may not be Yorkie standard but she is a Cutie pie |

| Like I mentioned I was asking opinions on the pups appearance. My mom knows my plan and yes she has seen the pictures of the pup already too, I am not just going out and getting one just because. Some people don't believe in giving pups as gifts but I've seen plenty of people on here who got theirs as gifts. My mom knows I have been "looking" at getting her own and this is how I know she would love to have one. Yeah the pups ears are a bit floppy that is what I thought too. She is a bit bigger also that was another concern, I want to see her in person. |

| Also i would love to get a rescue for her but I don't think they have any near us. Her boxer is fine with other dogs, shes older and great with Stormy. She lets Stormy eat her food and sleep in her bed. She is a gentle giant. My moms Boxer is very large around 80 lbs so even an 8-10lb dog would be good for her and would be "small" to her since the boxer is so large. |

| I think the puppy's cute, and I think the size is perfect seeing as your Mom owns a Boxer. They can be a bit playful and rough without meaning to be. I may get flamed for saying this...but I think that pup's a good match for your Mom, and if you know she wants a Yorkie, I'd buy it!

| I know you say the boxer is a gentle giant now..is she the only dog now? Do you know the background of the boxer from the humane society such as what type of situation she was in before. You just want to be sure it will be okay being around other dogs, especially ones smaller, since she was a HS dog and some of them come from bad experiences, etc. I think the Yorkie is a cutie. Go see her in person and see what you think. Also, be sure you are comfortable with the breeder, don't just go for inexpensiveness (not saying you can't find an excellent breeder & get a great dog for a great price!). Good Luck!

| Oh I totally agree, this is why I am going to go and look, I am not just interested in buying her because of price. I thought she was cute and the size match. I am not interested in getting a tiny one because my mom does have my daughter over sometimes and she has stairs in the house. A tiny one would not be good for her. The boxer is fine, shes almost 7 yrs old. We got her when she was 6-9 months old so she has been in the family as the only pet. Stormy stayed there a week and my previous pup who died would stay over too. She is very good with other dogs. She is the best dog ever, shes very gentle and she doesn't worry me one bit. |
