Default Did any of you feel pressure?

Did any of you feel pressure when trying to find your furbabies? I feel that if you dont make a decision, you might lose the puppy because you did not put down a deposit and if you do, then its not refundable if you see that the puppy didnt turn out the way you wanted. How do you decide?

I've bought many pets/animals in my life and I always relied on my gut feelings. I always knew if they were the right one or not. If you're not feeling it, then perhaps that puppy isn't "the one". But then I'm a firm believer in love at first sight.

I believe in love at first sight too....thats why I am marrying RNJ1997! ha ha ha He convinced me to come back to this forum.

Its just that putting a deposit on a 6 week old puppy is scary. How do you know the bite wont be an issue, how do you know that their coat will not be silky. So, while you wait, someone else comes along and purchases the pup and your back to square one....... I guess we just have to make a decision and hope for the best.....

When I was searching for my Brooklyn I can't even tell you how many puppies I looked at. But when I saw her I JUST KNEW she was the one!

I always take the attitude if it is meant to be it will happen. Although I put a deposit on Cali at 6 weeks and they charged more because she was the smallest (prior to YT and knowing better) then when I went to get her at 9 weeks she was as big as her littermates but she was still a cutie. When I went to get Pixie, Dixie (RIP) and Roxie I got them all from the same breeder who knew exactly what I was looking for and each time I went to look and came home with them as they were 13 months, 6 months and 4 months old and ready to go. Go with your gut feeling!!

Well now...you picked a good one...he's been busy here.

It sounds like you already have a particular puppy in mind. There are many breeders who wouldn't accept a deposit on a puppy until at least 8 weeks....that being said...you want a breeder who is breeding to standard and for quality. These breeders know their lines. They should be able to show you past puppy and adult pictures. Research the breeder...time consuming yes...but you will find the puppy you're seeking. If you have reservations...do not place a deposit...because if you do the above...there won't be any reservation.

You may have mis-spoke...because a yorkie is supposed to have a silk coat and many don't.

Good luck ~

I never felt any pressure at all. I looked at so many puppies, but when I saw Jake, I knew that he was the one I wanted. So, I put a deposit on him because I was sure. I went through the same breeder with Jackson, and she didn't charge me a deposit since she knew me (we have stayed friends) and she knew I wouldn't back out on her.

I don't think that a good breeder would ever make you feel pressured into making a decision. I would think they would want you to take your time and think about it because they want you to be sure.

I fell in love with Chloe and had to have her. She was 4 months old and everyone wanted the new puppies so I was pretty safe if I would have wanted to take more time.... but I knew I wanted her right away. She caught my heart even in a group of cutie younger babies, so I knew she was for me Don't ever feel pressured ,that's never a good way to make any decision....including your furbaby.

I agree - a responsible breeder won't pressure you. It took me a long time
to find Hope, and Rio was a nice, early surprise! It will work out for you.

but then on the breeder side of it, how long is a breeder supposed to turn other buyers down while someone is going back and forth trying to decide on a particular puppy with no deposit or any kind of commitment to the breeder? I sold a pup a year or so ago and got so frustrated with people i nearly pulled my hair out. it was on here. I had four people writing me several times a day about a little girl and one even went as far as to say she was making plan reservations to fly and get her but no one wanted to commit with a deposit for one reason or another. i was trying to be fair to them all and kept holding people off while the other people were trying to make up their mind. Finally after about two weeks and these same four people going round and round trying to decide what to do and keeping me hanging with no deposit( because I was trying to be nice to them all and give them time), one girl said she wanted her and would send the deposit that day and come get her in the next day or so. I took her deposit because I felt like the other potential buyers weren't being fair to me as a breeder.

I knew I wanted Maci as soon as I saw her and thats why I had to take her right before she turned 7 weeks old. Another family was looking at the same time and I felt like they was just waiting for me to set her down...and I did not! The breeder wanted them gone and it was me or them regardless if I felt she was too young..

I can definitely see this from a breeder's standpoint too. It's not fair to ask a breeder to hold a puppy without a deposit, especially if there are potential buyers waiting.

Default Here is the issue...

here is the issue we are facing---we found 3 breeders--all from YT referrals:

1. Many people recommend this breeder in TX and she is great! She has done genetic testing, she has answered all my questions, no bite issues with any of her dogs or other health issues, she has sent us pics of the sire and dam and they are cute, but not the kind of look I was going for. She will be mating the Sire and Dam for the first time in the next week or so, so we wont get the puppy till middle to end of March. THis is the Dam's first time breedign and the Sire has had bred before. Both parents have great coats and we like this breeder a lot---she truly cares about her pups. I would have to get on a waiting list for these puppies. If she does not have a girl, I would get my deposit back or I she can choose a puppy from a litter that has used her dogs for Stud services. She also completely makes sure that they are up to her standards (the Dam and the puppies).

2. This breeder is from North Carolina and she has been recommended more times than the TX breeder. Her puppy is 7 weeks now and she sent me updated photos. SOOOO CUTE!!!!!! A little above what I was will ing to spend though. I would get the puppy approximately the 2nd week of January. She has had not bite issues and the puppy's bite is good. No health issues for any of the pups. I love the look of her pups. Dam has a modified coat and SIre has a silky coat. When asked about genetic testing this is what she said: "Have you done genetic testing on the Sire and Dam? This is another particularly controversial subject. I do not test my parents, because it really has nothing to do with the direct parents of a puppy, but rather the entire line. If you were truly going to do extensive testing, you would really need to test parents, grandparents, great grandparents, and all pups from their litters, etc. and of course that’s not feasible. What I do instead of putting them through tests that aren’t really going to tell me anything (for example you could bile acid test you adults but if those adults don’t have a liver shunt it’s not going to show up, so you could say the parents are healthy and have been tested so the pups will be fine…but that’s not necessarily true, if it’s in the lines the pups could still get it, and it wouldn’t have to show up in the parents), is that I choose my breeding dogs from good lines that have had no genetic problems that I can find. It’s more difficult than it sounds, but if I am purchasing a dog and the person selling cannot give me straight answers and information on the lines for several generations back, I do not get the dog from them. I try to be as careful as I can when choosing who I will breed.

3. THis breeder was also found on YT and this is her second litter. Her first litter was sooooooo cute! She is close enough for us to go and drive the few hours to see the puppy in 5 more weeks (puppies just born this week). The only issue is she does not do genetic testing and so far had no issues till the other day she found out she may have any issue from the first litter.

SO now, do we wait for the 3rd breeder to see her pups?, but then we may get further down on the waiting list for the TX breeder and will lose out on the North Carolina. OR do we wait for the TX puppies who we havent even seen or are sure that a female will be amongst the puppies and lose out on NOrth Carolina. OR do we go with the North Carolina one?

If breeder does not do genetic testing, is that a bad sign?????

We just want to love a puppy....why is this so hard??
