My boy Rocco is 10 months old. When I took him in at the 6 month mark my vet said she wanted him to gain some weight before she neutered him. He was only a little under 2 lbs at 6 months old.. This may have absolutely NOTHING to do with this but it might.. ANYWAY, he does his fare share of humping and we are going to try to get him in in Dec, but with the holidays and how crazy it is we may have to wait till Jan, BUT his humping is not too excessive. Last night I woke up to him almost violently humping my arm! When I looked at "HIM" it was ALL THE WAY out, and I mean a lot!! I was taken a back by it! Oh I'm so sorry I have to ask this! I mean the poor lil' boy could hardly walk! It took quite a while for it to go back "IN" but not all the way back "IN". This morning when I left for work at 7am "IT" was still poking out a little. I told my b/f that if it didn't go down by mid morning to get him to urgent care.. Well it did go all the way back in... Is this normal?? Am I trippin'? I pretty much know how human male anatomy works, but not canines... Any insight or advice would be appreciated.. Or am I just WAY too overly worried about this? I mean I feel completely TRAUMATIZED by seeing what I did last night! LOL

Again, I'm sorry I even had to ask, but my vet isn't in the office today and you guys ALWAYS have so much knowledge about everything with these babies!!

Thanks!! xx
Oh man! I just went through this with Doodlebug last week and he is neutered!!!! He was in the yard with Bogey and they were romping around and playing. I went to check on them after about 5 minutes to call them back into the house and Doodlebug was on the patio and Bogey was staring at him and wouldn't leave his side. I finally went out and picked him up and he was in FULL EJECT! I knew from YT that it needed to go back in or else I would have to take him in to the vet. I put sugar, salt and even honey on his little guy and it was still out. I then put him into the sink in cool water and still nothing! I called the vet and he said COLD water for my little man. Now into the shower he went and he was swimming while I held him under the shower with his little legs in the air. Water everywhere but no more Mr. Happy!

After this this incident we have not had any more incidnets.

In all of this I thought that after he was neutered this wouldn't happen but BOY was I wrong!

Ah the cold water deal hasn't been mentioned yet, and to be honest it sounds MUCH better than the KY option !! I honestly don't know if I could do it... Thanks for the tip!!

I had to take Jersey to the vet for this, and he told me this at-home remedy when all else fails.

Unfortunately, I do have experience in this matter. If it does get stuck out, keep it lubricated. KY will do. Usually the little hairs get rolled inside the skin and keep it from closing back over his penis. Gently pull the skin back down the shaft and try to make sure the hairs are all out and then gently slide the skin back up toward the tip. If it is out too long or gets too dry, it can swell up and you won't be able to get the skin back over it.

I swear the next part is true. If it is truly stuck out, pour granulated sugar on it, and wait. It could take 30 minutes. The sugar draws the moisture out so the swelling goes down and the skin can cover the penis again.

Hopefully you will get him fixed and that will take care of it. Good luck.
WOW... Now that's a remedy I didn't expect to hear!!! LOL

If you see your little one humping, make sure to tell him no and then distract him with something else. If he's humping a toy, take it away. You don't want to get any bad behaviors started, and you don't want him trying to hump you again or hump someone that may be visiting. It's a dominance issue and should be corrected.

I stopped my male dog (puppy) from humping toys and my Shih Tzu. He has not shown any sexual behavior around me. I am happy you started this thread. I would not know what to do if my dog displays that behavior. Thank you everybody for the advice about the thing many people do not talk about or normally ask the veterinarian on annual check-ups.

In honor of this Thanksgiving, I am sooooooooooo grateful that my baby came to me neutered! I really don't think I could rub anything on a male dog's rocket ship. My hat's off to those of you who have.

My guy is very well endowed considering his size, to the point where it is difficult to pick him up with handling his man parts. I am now extra thankful that I've never seen him use his equipment for anything but pee.

He does do this weird thing on the rug in our office where he crawls along the floor on his belly. He loves belly rubs, but I've always wondered if he's giving himself a "special" massage.

The only major humping experience I can share is with a neutered male cat. I noticed that he was doing that thing cats do where they knead a soft surface with their front paws, except he was doing a 70s disco move with his pelvis. I interrupted him, and was very surprised to discover just how much he'd been enjoying himself. Cat sticks are much more innocuous that dogs are, though.

It would be nice if veterinarians would give new puppy owners a pamphlet about dogs reaching sexual maturity and the behaviors they display when in heat along with information about neutering and spaying your pet. You know part of the puppy package that comes with your first examination. I was clueless about this topic before reading this thread. This information would not offend me, because I want to know how to take good care of my pet. I would like to keep these situations a family matter and not have to visit the veterinarian if this occurs.

I was really interested in this post as about two days ago this happened with jj. From what i read here it isn't supposed to happen after they are neutered? When we got him from aspca in may he had been altered then, he is three years old and yet 7 months later all of a sudden he can't walk and has this glazed look in his eyes. I know he really likes his froggy stuffed toys but i am about to hide them if it happens too many more times! It only took about half an hour for it to go back ( thank goodness it wasn't overnight) but my husband was laughing most of that time and telling not to worry it will "take care of itself" now i justtry to distract him when he goes toward his frogs.

Default It happens

It happens with netured dogs also.I think it just depends on the dog.Ours was 12 years old and had been netured before 6 mths, but still did this once in a while.Hubby said it is no big deal. But I would try to stop them before it gets to this point.Females also do the humping thing.Perennialvic

We have trained the male boxer to "put it up". I don't know how we did it - he just sucks it back in when I fuss at him......
Sometimes, I wish this would work on the hubby.[/QUOTE]

I have also "trained" my 2yr un-neutered not to hump or flash us by simply telling him NO!....Naturally my husband thinks that I am mean....
