| I completely understand where you are coming from, I always worry about things like that. Maybe if you have someone who can come over and check on your baby while your at work you'll feel better. My little girl is so small I dont like to leave her alone at all. I have my aunt stay with her during the day, and If she can't I just bring her to work with me. Hope this helps a little!! |

| They make these stickers you can put on your door to let firemen or women know you have pets inside they sell them at petco and I got a free one at one of the pet expos I went to and even tho Callie is never left alone I still have it on the door. Maybe that would help some.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | That's so sad about your co-worker's home. Everyone got out of the house okay, right? The animal rescue site has decals for your house windows (instead of "child bedroom", they say "pets inside", I think). Having some of those might make you feel a little better. You could also have your home monitored by one of the alarm companies, at least then, if you're not home, the fire dept. would be notified. I use to worry about things like fire, tornadoes, burglars, etc. And, although I'm still concerned I do try to keep things in perspective. I think most live their lives out and have none of these things happen to them. Be prepared but do not let worry consume your life. ETA: Sorry, didn't see your post above recommending the decals too.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | This happened to my family ,when I was in 9th grade. We were at a birthday party for my little cousin. We were coming up the hill, and my dad said .."WOW look at all that smoke,as we got closer we realized it was our house!!! My dad actually jumped out of the car dropped to his knees and fell apart. It was the first time I ever saw him cry. We lost everything. A neighbor got our dog out. My guinea pig and fish died. Our 1 car burned up also. We had fire insurance and friends and family and our church were great. My parent moved in with my aunt and uncle and my brother and I had to live with friends (separately) for 6 month so we could go to school. I'm always afraid of fires. Just yesterday my daughter confessed leaving the Flat iron on all day!!!

Yorkie Yakker | I am absolutely terrified of fires. I am so scared that one will break out while we are sleeping. My husband works out of state during the week and it is just me and my 3 skin children and Daisy, our yorkie. I lay awake at night thinking about how I would try and save everyone and that there is no way that I would leave the house with anyone still inside. I have lost countless hours of sleep because of this. I have considered seeing a doctor a time or two. |

| Maybe seeing someone about this would be a good thing! I am also terrified of fires, it has to be my biggest fear. But you cant let that interfere with living your life. When I came home from Iraq I lost countless hours of sleep just thinking about everything and anything, things like what could I have done different believe me when I say this, talking about your fears (even if its just to a friend) makes things a lot easier to deal with. No one should have to live their life afraid of something!!! |

| My grandmother's apartment burnt down from faulty wiring. She lost one of her cats in the fire. It was a former feral who was just too scared to do anything but hide under the bed (the other cat was found and treated for smoke inhalation). She lost everything too... I would get one of those "There are pets here" decals for your house, and a fire alarm system like Brink's which will alert the authorities if there is a fire. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | It is scary. I read somewhere that you should never leave a clothes dryer on when not home as that is one of the major causes of house fires. Also check electrical wires periodically to make sure they are not sliced or being overloaded. I too worry about my babies when I am not home, I also worry someone will take them so I never leave a window open even a little if I am not home. I feeel terrible for your co worker's house.

| thanks so much for all the responses. yes he was crying so bad at work today. i felt so bad. They have a cat and it was brought back to life. He said its better today. I mean when im home i dont worry about anything because i know id rather be here knowing i did something to try to get them out. But when im not home i worry so bad. Cago is really bad around other people very afraid even though nothing has to him. He will go around all of us that are here all the time but no one new. i dont know how anyone would get him out. I know it shouldnt consume my life and it doesnt i do leave the house but i do stress about it a lot. I am a worry wart as my mom would call it because she is too lol. Ive just lost one of my babies before and its sooo scary because you dont want to go through that about and have that breathless feeling and heartache. With a fire you just think about your babies alone, scared, and possibly burning. Its horrible.

| I'm sorry about your coworker's home I worry about this a lot... I have a slight case of OCD. I check everything frequently. I unplug pretty much everything. I don't know what else I can do. I'm seriously considering a babysitter for my babies, if I can find someone that I can trust, when i get out of school.

| Hey there! I know it can be very scary and I worry about it too. I have decals on my doors and window where the furbutts are. I also have notified the fire station. Anytime I leave the house we always say a prayer for "God to watch over us while Nana and Momma are gone". We say it every morning and every night before we go to bed. Im sorry for your friends loss. Its hard. When I watched my neighbors house burn down, it was very scary.

| I too unplug almost everything. I make sure there isnt anything that can catch on fire near outlets. I clean the lint screen in the dryer in case im not home and someone uses the dryer and doesnt clean it. I will turn around after leaving for work if i feel like i forgot anything.
