| What steps to shut local Puppy Mill? I went with a friend of mine to look at a Great Dane puppy yesterday and the lady had a 14 week old Yorkie that she had just bought.. We began talking and I noticed one of its eyes seemed to be infected and its hair was really coarse and "dingy". I asked her where she got the pup from and she told me a lady in *** *** had TONS of them. (I remembered seeing her ad in the local paper that same day) The lady then began describing how the breeder had cages stacked 4 & 5 cages high and probably had 200 Yorkies, 50 chihuahuas and also several mixed breeds there. She said there were easily 400 dogs or more there. I came home and began looking at PuppyMill websites and just ended up going to bed in tears. I talked to my friend again and we are wanting to do something to shut this lady down. I'm not about being on the news or in the papers (I have a home daycare business.... ) but thinking about all those dogs -- I want to do something. Has anyone ever had success with shutting a puppymill or backyard breeder down? Any suggestions? (I have read the "steps" on what to do , but wonder if anyone out there can shed some light on if it has actually worked. I actually lost sleep over this!! I loved on my babies even MORE after seeing the Charlize Theron clip with PETA..... I'll post the link to that if anyone needs me to. Its heartbreaking! |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | That is a mill - if the conditions are inhumane - it's good to TRY to get pics if you can - but for SURE contact your local ASPCA and report them or better yet - have your friend report the conditions she saw. I'd even report them to the police if I were you - they will refer you to anyone that can help..... also - you can email/call Animal Control AND the Radio and tv stations with what your friend saw....There are several people here who HAVE HAD mills invegistated - all it takes is one person caring enough to report them - I wish you the very best of luck - just by asking here I know you'll help and you could save those poor yorkies from a life of hell.... NewlywedWifey and Reconsmama have both reported mills and had GREAT sucess ...Go visit http://www.millbusters.com/forums/index.php? and you'll find more info - and there is a Master Letter section where you can get ideas on what to say if you persue this - GOOD LUCK ! |

| How much danger would I put myself in if I took in a very very compact video camera and filmed my "walk-through"....? My friend and I have talked about us doing the "expose'" and getting shot in the process! (lol) Are these people aware that others want them shut down? I would think they would frown upon my bringing a camera and taking pictures.. but then I wonder if there are any privacy laws that would protect THEM from unlawful videoing? I am dreading the visit because I know I'll want to load up all 400 dogs and bring them home, but I am looking forward to it so I can pass on what I see to the proper authorities. Any help or suggestions will be welcomed! |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | If it were me - I would have one of you distract them and the other try to tape....pictures may be easier but I think it could be dangerous if they have posted rules about no camera's or something - it really depends on how many people would be there - I personally would try it.... but I don't want to give you bad advise here....and really don't want you to put yourselves in danger. Your friend is a better judge on how dangerous these people may be - Lots of mills know they're hated but people so I'm sure they're on the lookout for people looking for inside stories and pictures. Does your phone have a camera ? I would FIRST call the ASPCA and see if they know this mill and if not report it - see what happens and go from there

| Do not put yourself in danger. All you need to do is call the SPCA, provide them with the name, address of the puppymill and a description of what you saw. You could well be risking your life by taking in a video camera. Most puppymills won't even let you see the operation, they bring the pups out to you. You can also call the authorities at city hall for the jurisdiction this place is in. NOBODY is allowed to have 400 dogs, even licensed kennels have limits. You can also make a call to your local newspaper, radio stations and tv stations. Tell them you do not want your identity revealed. They will send out experienced investigative reporters. |

| It isn't hard to get video, it is however hard to get pics unless your camera has nite vision and doesn't need a flash. All you have to do is take a few people with you, Id say at least 2 and have them talk to the lady while you either play with a dog so you can get a full view or just ask to see all of her dogs. Play dumb though. DOnt act like you know anything about the breed or the dogs or puppymills or whatever. Just be careful though. If ya need more tips, just ask, I got lots. LOL |
