| Thanks everybody!! Thanks everybody!! I am so grateful for all your reply. I am at work right now so I can't really read thru all of them yet. But I will tonight. I must say this really open my eyes. It's real amazing how Yorkies get along with so many breeds - all shape and sizes, too. My little baby thanks you, too!! |

| I'll bet. Boo seems to very clam and gentle with Chattie. I can see Chattie's smile in the second photo. Another question for you - do you leave them together when you are not around? Is that still an option for me if the size difference is big? My baby is very friendly toward both dogs and people. She loves everybody. She once stayed with a Golden for nearly two months and they were best friends. They ate together, played together, and slept together. She followed the Golden everywhere. I don't plan to get a Golden, by the way. Some of my friends do not think it is a good idea to have a big difference in size, which is why I posted the question here. I thought you guys would have a better feel since most of us have Yorkies. |

| I really wouldn't leave a large dog with a small one unsupervised. Even the best behaved dogs can have accidents...and with such a size difference---it can be fatal.

| [That make sense. The point of getting another dog is for her to have a playmate while I am at work. I won't leave them together unsupervised until I am sure they are fine together regardless the size or breed or even personality of course. But just how big is too big? My baby is 6.5 pounds. | I have a 12 lb cavalier king charles spaniel with my baby girl and they are the best of friends. Most important, my Cav, Louis is SO patient with Ella. She will try and steal his toys and he wags his tail. She will wait until he is asleep and then growl and grab his ears and shake them like chew toys and he wakes up and wags his tail and rolls over and lets her wrestle with him. He almost always lets her 'win.' Its the personality of the 2nd dog that matters. You want a patient, happy dog who is well socialized. I have to say, Cavaliers are just an exceptionally easy going breed. I belong to a meetup group and they are all super silly and relaxed and even when they play, it never seems to escalate beyond a few warning growls. Great breed (not as great as Yorkies...)

If you are getting a puppy, I would try to aim for the 4-8 lb range. 10 at the largest because of puppy exhuberance. i have 2 12 lbers and a 4 lber and a 6lber... I leave them with the 12lbers...but they are 6&7 (the bigger ones) years old...they are extremely mellow...and I've known them longer. I wouldn't go bigger than 15lbs though. If the 12 lbers were a puppy (small going to get 12lbs)---I wouldn't do it because of the strength and lack of inhibition.

When Molly was a pup---she was a handful! And I wouldn't leave her alone with Izze.

| I like cavaliers, larger toy poodles, larger yorkies (this may be an option for you), over sized toys... if you want "bigger". I'm writing this because my message was posted twice and I am editing so you don't have to read the same thing!

| You said your baby is 6.5 lbs. Chip is about 7-9 lbs and Smokey is 14 and they do just fine together...

I *really* want a Golden. I have loved them since I can remember. I didn't get one originally because I was living in an apartment... and my Molly she is obsessed with them. She has neighborhood golden boyfriends... however, I would never get one for this reason. If you get a pup from a breeder, make sure he/she is reputable and evaluates the pup's personality for you. If you want a mellow pup---tell them so. Do you know what breed you are interested in? Are you going to stick with a yorkie? There are oversized yorks...
