| Flying Prices I am concerned with the recent price increase with United Airlines. The price has gone from $100 in June to $175 in October for ONE WAY to take your pet under the seat!! I have already purchased my ticket or I would go to a different airline because I have seen that American & Delta go where I need to go and the pet fares there are alot cheaper as of right now anyhow. They will probably be raising soon too. The cost to fly Lily is more expensive than the cost to fly myself!! My ticket was $220 round trip and hers is $350!! That is a little extreme I think!! I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions because I fly quite often and I didn't realize it was so expensive to take her with me. I have no choice at this time but to fly and not drive and it is from AZ to PA so that is too far and too long not to take her with me. I would be afraid not to pay for her and take a chance on losing my ticket or worse!! Besides the fact that I just wouldn't do that. I agree that you should pay for them to travel but I think it is just to the extreme!! My grandson goes cheaper at 8 years old and a 2 year old child can go FREE!! I know there are alot of animal lovers that travel with their pets so there must be some solution to this growing problem. THANKS for any input before I purchase my next airline ticket. I already am commited to this one for November - January. |

| I completely agree, it is absolutely insane what airlines are charging. I am ok with paying but it should be pretty minimal. Unfortuntely I do not know of a solution. I need to book some flights myself and I am not sure what I am going to do.

| There was another thread that just posted about this exact topic....I did some research and found that there are 2 airlines that don't charge as much....I think one is Northwest airlines they charge 100.00 one way and I'm sorry I can't remember the other but they only charge 80.00 one way. You can do a search for airline prices and depending on where you're flying see if you can book on one of those 2 airlines... Frontier no longer fly pets.. I understand because we're flying our daughter out here and it looks like the puppies airfare might be as much as her ticket!! Good luck!

| United was $100 in June and by the time I flew in October it cost me $125 and now it is $175 for November!! I already got my tickets in advance when the "dog fee" was $100 but you don't pay for the pet until you get to the airport so that is how I ended up paying $125 in October for the ticket that I bought in June and now it will cost me $175 for the ticket that I already purchased for November - January!! I will just have to pay it this trip but I will look for another airline for the rest of my travel plans. I just wanted to post this so everyone can pay closer attention before it creeps up on you and you end up paying more too. It seems like a no win situation at this point to me. Gas prices seem to be coming down right now so if that continues maybe the airline prices will follow. |

| I am in the same boat as the OP. $250 for my ticket, $325 for Ryder. This is ridiculous. Does anyone have any ideas? I would assuming calling to complain would do nothing. When I questioned the individual with whom I was speaking (United), he told me United was trying to "catch up" to the other airlines as far as pet carry-on rates. I told him that they were the most expensive. He had nothing to say about it. I wanted to speak with someone higher up, but I know that would get me no where. I am really, really frustrated.

| Oh, and when I called Delta, they said that since they have merged with Northwest, they don't know if they are going to use the Northwest rates ($80), or the Delta rate ($150). Gee, I wonder which way they'll go....

| Maybe it would do more good to get a pet organization involved in the complaint system rather than us as individuals, many of us would fly with a pet friendly airline if we had our pets or not. I am the mother of two skin kids but I would rather listen to someones dog barking on a plane than someones kid crying. I can't think of any organizations at the moment other than the ASPCA, do you guys have any ideas.

| I'm on the phone with United Customer Service right now.. I have been transferred to a supervisor, and now to a "specialist." Too bad I can hardly understand anyone I have spoken with..... I keep getting the same crap "your complaint will for forwarded to the management team for policy-making procedures." They only allow three pets on board at a time, so I doubt they care if the three people who would be carrying-on a pet don't use their airline. I am really mad

| I tried to make a reservation for a seat and they wouldn't let me because he's a "dog." They don't know him, he's not a DOG!!! Anyway, I would encourage everyone not to fly United (if you have a choice). Maybe everyone could write in a quick e-mail to the customer service department explaining why they will be abstaining from using United in the future. Never mind I can't find an e-mail address but you can call this number 1-877-228-1327. As it is the customer service department it is a very quick call, nothing like calling the reservations department.
