| see I can only speak for myself and my husband. Like in any relationship there will be things that you and your spouse will not agree on. My relationship does not consist of my husband telling me no or vice versa. I want to get something I talk to him about and get his feedback not permission. If he disagrees then we talk about why he feels that way and I tell him why I feel I want it and we come to an agreement. His reasons might be valid and make me see the situation differently or they might be his concerns and I come up with ways that will ease his concerns and we agree. An example is a new dog. I have wanted a sister for max and he said he felt one dog is enough and we shouldnt get another. Does that mean that Im not going to get my little girl? no it doesnt mean that. I spoke to him and found out why he was against it and his reasons are valid and important to me so we came up with a way to get the little girl and calm his doubts. communication is everything in my marriage, we have no room for lies, deceit and disrespect.

| My Husband just likes to be involved in decisions of major purchases and a dog is a major purchase. We purchase everything together from appliances to furniture. It has always been this way. I dont have to ask his permission but he wants to give imput.

I dont get my husbands permission to do anything HOWEVER I RESPECT my husband dearly so I wouldnt even consider going behind his back and getting something especially a new pet that he didnt want in the first place, Im sorry but that is just plain disrespectful and why would anyone bring a new animal in the house knowing that it wont be loved by all??

| He works, I don't. If I worked and had an income, then I could say more. But, he's supported me for 32 years, and I have always respected his decison on everything just as he has mine. If I went behind his back and did things, it would hurt him. I have always trusted him, as he has me, and going behind someones back is wrong, and can cause a lot of problems. I always say be honest and talk, and it makes a marriage much stronger. To the op, I would tell him you'd really love to give the puppy a shot, if it doesn't work then you will rehome him. See what he says then. I would sure hate to see you go behind his back and get it, it could cause problems in your relationship |

| Donating YT 1000 Club Member | Since you already have two I don't know how far I'd push your wife with another. My hubby never wanted a dog, his family didn't have good luck with them growing up. This little rescue Yorkie we got the end of June is the only dog we've had he's liked. Actually he loves her! But I always did all the pet maint. since he didn't want the others and he tollerated them because I loved them and he loves me. I don't know how far I'd get with multiples however he mentioned maybe getting a playmate for her the other day. But decided she may not like sharing the spot light since it's the first time in her life she's had it. Not to mention she's a dream to travel with, two would be a little difficult. Maybe I need to find another pig..........

| So...jlafred - did you get the puppy??? I am fascinated with the idea of getting a second yorkie and am considering all the aforementioned different approaches to take with my dh of 33 years, who says 1 dog is enough. Deceit is out of the question, more of a "honey you have your new Mustang and your nice big new garage; all I want is one more little bitty puppy dog" method might get me further. LOL Hmmm....really if I found just the right one I think I just might be able to pursuade him! Last edited by MeAndMyOlivia; 10-30-2008 at 11:46 AM. |

I was keeping him for a friend who sold him only to have him returned when the new owner was diagnosed with Lupus. The other pigs she had were mean to him and she had to find a place for him to go till a new owner was found. I loaded him and the kids in the truck and we put him in the dining room in a rabbit cage with a blanket over the top to keep him calm. My husband came home from work and whipped the blanket off saying what's this (thinking cat or dog)? Which was followed by holy s**t it's a pig!!! We had him a week or two when we got the call saying "you know you could just keep him" and we did. He had Thanksgiving and Christmas in our house before he could live outside safely. His name was Gideon, all the pigletts in that litter were named after characters in the series "Lonesome Dove". We lived on 2 1/2 acres in AZ at the time so I had alot of small pets then.
